NHS Volunteers - Chat here!

I've looked but can't seem to find a thread so thought I'd start one here, I've volunteered for the NHS transport role, delivering supplies, equipment and prescriptions. I'm all set up with my app ready to go and waiting for an alert!

Anybody else had anything to do yet? I think they said that things might start coming through after 31st March.

@TokyoSushi : I'm not a volunteer, so apologies for high jacking your thread, but I am in a position whereby I may need help from the NHS volunteers.
May I ask, has there been any sort of "training" for your role or any sort of checks eg. CRB checks?

PS. I should have said, many thanks and bless you for giving up your time and potentially risking yourself to help others.😊

No worries at all. Not yet, there's an information pack, and they ask if you have a current CRB/DBS check - I answered no, but nothing else yet. If you had one, you had to upload it.

No request yet to ask me to 'do something' but I assume I'll get some sort of overview when they do.

I haven't heard beyond initial registration confirmation as yet - haven't got an app downloaded or anything. I guess with so many it will take a while.

Can't wait to get going on some errands.

Yes the numbers are massive, I registered pretty much as soon as it was announced, but was surprised that it was as quick as it was! What have you registered to do @Bumpsadaisie ?

I'm working full-time from home, and have 2 DC but thought I could help out in the evening and at weekends when DH is home!

I volunteered for anything! I have a lovely new car and was looking forward to being able to get out and about and drive it in the evenings in a legitimate and helpful way!

I have to admit that part of my keenness to apply was to get out of the house and have something to do that would actually make a difference!

I'm still waiting to be verified. Also signed up to do transporting stuff!

I’ve signed up and sent all requested docs for back ground checks

I’ve offered to do anything plus volunteering in the call centre taking 999 calls because I used to do it years ago.

Well done everybody - hopefully we can get going soon!

I’ve volunteered too. Waiting for verification. I was made redundant just before this crisis with no dependants so welcome the opportunity of giving something back.

I'm verified and officially ready to respond to alerts. There are so many responders in the roads around me (the app lets you see where others are) that I don't think we will each individually be called out all the much.

TokyoSushi · 31/03/2020 15:58

I agree @BentBastard we love on a new build estate and the app says that there are about 10 on here!

I can’t find the app. What is it called?

@ladygracie it's called responder and looks like pic attached but you can't register on it until you are verified.

My DH has signed up. Bit worried about it because littlest is in the extremely vulnerable group and I do worry about the initial risk.

Proud of him though! Re: background checks, he doesn’t have an existing DBS (usually works in European projects for product manufacture) but the NHS have lurked his Linked-In, presumably as part of their vetting process?

He’s just now checking his car insurance through his usual employers (company car).

I really admire all of you for doing this.

I'm all ready on the app.

When I first looked I thought there were lots of local people needing assistance, then realised that they are other volunteers!

The local council has a page set up for requesting assistance, I'm guessing that will be directed into this system 🤷‍♀️

To those that asked - everyone doing this has to provide some form of ID. If you are going to be in direct contact with people then you need to have a DBS certificate.

I’m also registered and ready to go, not sure how it will work exactly or how they will call for helpers but we shall see!

There are a lot round here too, so it will be interesting to see how much we are individually needed. It seemed wrong to sit here on furlough with nothing to do and not try and help out. In a selfish way it is good for me too, it’s tough sitting around with nothing to do, worrying about money etc.

I registered and verified my email address on 27th March, uploaded photo of my DBS check etc. I realise things are busy, but thought I might have heard something by now - how long did it take for other people to hear anything? Thanks.

I've been live since it first went live and no alerts have come through at all. I'm wondering whether they are still getting the alerters set up on it.

Has anyone else had any alerts come through?
