People who have received THE highly vulnerable letter - how do you get a delivery slot?

How do you get an online delivery slot with any of the supermarkets?

There's nowhere that says 'CLICK HERE if you have received the highly vulnerable letter' or anything.

Thanks for your tips / advice / experience

It seems to be a waiting game. Apparently the supermarkets are getting the database from the government and then making contact. I don't know if it's just their existing customers they are going to contact or everyone on the list. We have always used sainsburys online but the last 2 weeks we haven't been able to book a slot and impossible to speak to anyone. I've had to shop in store at our local Waitrose and will wait and see if they do make contact. We're luck in that I can go out while my husband has to be shielded but how many are completely on their own dealing with it?

Hi @mrshoho

Thanks for your reply. Yes - that's my concern too, that people will have received the letter and yet not be getting slots for their orders etc.

My mother received the letter, and so far hasn't heard from anyone official.

She did get an email from Waitrose saying that she's a loyal customer and over 70 so will get priority access to order online if she goes via the link in the email. So far, the email link hasn't been successful though.

I think I'm in the group after that. I have bad asthma, but am way under 70.

Best of luck to you and your husband. x

Is this only for vulnerable people in England?

Report
MrsKypp · 30/03/2020 12:09

@Sillyscrabblegames

I don't know - I would have thought it'd be for all highly vulnerable throughout the UK?

(The extremely vulnerable group, not the more general over 70s and pre-existing conditions group)

It's the 1.5 million (or whatever number they decided on).

I’m still grappling with this

I have one Ocado delivery due this week that AFAIK has not been cancelled, but I won’t really believe that until I get the text. After that it could get complicated.

I saw a post on another thread that supermarkets have been inundated with people trying to claim vulnerability, so the ‘shield’ group )who should easily be able to prove exceptional vulnerability’ are being drowned out.

I am in touch with my local (council run) hub, so I know I won’t starve, I’m trying to see if there is any way to access vulnerable priority through the national hub. It does look from some other comments as if there should be, but I have yet to work out how it is done,

@iVampire

Good luck with your order.

The supermarkets should ask to see the letter, that way they could easily be able to tell who is extremely vulnerable, although I read somewhere that only about 900,000 of the 1.5 million had been sent letters so far.

Please do update us on how you get on with the hub.

Apparently a friend of Dh tried to order from Sainsbury's and wouldn't let them because they "weren't on the list of vulnerable people" which suggests they have a list already ?!?!

I've tried and I can't. It seems a bit pointless to have a list if no support is given. Total wind up.

I think Sainsbury's current list is made of people already registered with them who they have identified as being over 70 (from Nectar card data) or who have phoned their number to register as vulnerable.

Sainsbury’s and Waitrose at least are getting the government list and will contact us (though possibly only if we are current customers -not sure).

In the meantime you can get government food box deliveries - register at the extremely vulnerable website.

I was trying to sort this for a family member. They have received a care box so clearly the letter is being shared somewhere

That is probably from the government @mochojoes.

Finally got through to Sainsbury's this morning after a week of trying and several hours on hold.

Parents are on the list - hooray... but there are no delivery slots available... sigh

They told me to check back every hour to try and get one as they are released.

I finally got through to Sainsbury's on Saturday morning and they said I'd receive an emailed link to priority delivery within 48 hours - but no. Tried again this morning and got cut off again. I'm hopeful that the data from the government will be shared very shortly, because it's frustrating enough being regarded as extremely high risk without the Sainsbury's website cheerily informing me that I'm not extremely high risk! I know they must be completely overwhelmed but I just want to get on their priority list, even if there aren't any delivery slots immediately.

@MrsKypp that's only the 1.5 million vulnerable in England. It not clear from the media what is happening for the rest of the UK.

I'd also like to know as have dc who is being shielded and I'm disabled so can't physically shop. We always use delivery weekly but are struggling at present.
According to my ccg website the list is being updated daily till next week then weekly thereafter on a Monday evening. I'm hoping this is shared with supermarkets and updated. Would be nice to know to reduce people's anxieties.

@squishedgrapes would you mind sharing the email address you used? I can't find a single one that doesn't bounce back!

We just got an Ocado delivery for tomorrow!

I looked at about 5pm today and there were slots available for tomorrow and the day after.

I don't know if they know I was in the original more general vulnerable group (bad asthma) or whether I was just lucky with the timing. I was already an Ocado customer.

I ordered for my mother, as well as for us.

Report
MrsKypp · 30/03/2020 18:03

Regarding rationed products, they only let us order 2 Marvel skimmed milk.

Everything else we wanted was either out of stock or no maximum number.

(We didn't try to order loo roll or pasta)

@Sillyscrabblegames

Oh I'm sorry, I had thought the 1.5 million was for the whole UK.

I read anyway yesterday that 600,000 of those people haven't been sent letters. They may not even realise they are in that group then(?)

I used to shop online with Sainsbury’s or Morrison’s. I had my shielded group letter. Managed to get through to Sainsbury’s after 500+ tries. They are only letting the very high risk shielded group have preference and you have to already have signed up to online deliveries, nobody new can set up. The slots go up a few days before and it’s fine. I was staying up until 12/1 for a slot with anyone before. For Asda slots they used to have new ones about 11.30 on the night if that helps anyone.
