Today I am braising a lettuce. An out of date romaine lettuce.

Make me feel better about this!

I had some out of date lentil based baby snacks left by my grandchildren last summer.

We've started watering down milk in porridge and drinking black tea and coffee so there's enough milk for the kids.

Don't the French do something with lettuce, onion and peas?
Don't know how to do it but it tastes divine.

Ohh. I'm off to freeze half of my grapes now!

Freda - that's pretty hardcore of you Grin

Made copious amounts of very random soups.

One was particularly tasty, and I'll never be able to make it again, as I have no idea what actually went in it.

Was the George's Marvellous Medicine of soups.

Found sponge fingers in the back of the cupboard. Out of date but taste fine. Making a jelly-less trifle

Harpy - I know what you mean! Thanks for reminding me about that.

I'm making hash for breakfast every morning - random bits and bobs, left overs fried up with spices, sprinkle of cheese, an egg on top if we've got any.

I roasted some wrinkly grapes with olive oil and salt and ate them with cheese

DD never eats her crusts so I'm putting them in food processor and making breadcrumbs, then freezing them to mix with grated cheese to top pasta bakes. I cut the crusts off first- she's not nibbling around them.

Roasted grapes? Is that a thing? What were they like?

To my kids delight, I am making a lot of pies and Cornish pasties. Sadly, I am the only one who likes soup otherwise I would be doing that too.

Off to freeze the grapes and chuck oranges at the kids. DH wants to institute a tuck shop (where fruit is free...).

I stewed a load of rhubarb we had in the freezer from the in-laws allotment. Freed up some space and was tasty with some natural yoghurt.

Love these ideas! There's got to be a Covid-19 cook book in here somewhere.

I might never be able to face soup / stew again when this is over. I'm just waiting for my fresh food to run out so I can eat a Pot Noodle now Grin

I’m not eating 3 meals a day, also making soups with gluts of veg. Porridge is now half milk half water. Using up random things from the freezer for me and DH, batch cooking where possible for the DC in case things get worse.

I'm putting the non-eaten cat food [why do they suddenly decide to dislike a pouch flavour for no reason???] in a dish in front porch where a hedgehog comes to eat it each night!

I read on here someone said you could grate broccoli stalk and add it to salad instead of throwing it away. I started doing it and it's bloody delicious! Can't believe I used to throw it away!

1 loaf in the freezer used only for toast
1 loaf in the cupboard used only for sandwiches

....

No pancakes til the day before we do the big shop, just in case we need the eggs for anything else

....

I'm stretching a chicken for as many meals as I can. Test the ol' Mumsnet adage

Porridge doesn't need to be made with milk, I make with water then milk on top and mix in, still tastes the same.

Broccoli stalk is the best bit! much nicer than the florets. I slice it thin and eat as is, reminds me of fresh peas from the pod.

I had some fruit that was looking a bit worse for wear.

Washed and peeled it and made a couple of crumbles.

Made a lovely soup with broccoli stalks last weekend. The roast chicken from last Sunday did that meal, chicken wraps and still some left for risotto/pie.

Also made my own stock with the carcass when I wouldn’t normally bother. Will use for soup or risotto or couscous
