Bin idiots-help me defeat them

I'm putting this in coronavirus as I believe this act of selfishness is because people are worried about bin collection being cut.

Someone is putting their binbags in our wheelie bin. Not just one bag- they've made 3-4 separate visits over the last few days. We know it is the same people because they use 'distinctive' binbags according to my DH.

Bin collection isn't for 12 days and we now can't get anything in our bin. They've stuffed it so full that we can't close the bin. We've got a child in nappies, I'm not happy!!!

I know that this is a minor issue with what's going on but I've got time on my hands and I want to stop them from doing it. Please help me. How can I beat the Bin Wankers???

If you know who it is dump the bags back by their doorstep and report them - not 100% sure on this but I believe it’s possibly a criminal offence to dump your rubbish in someone else’s bin. Least that’s what we were told as a child!

We don't know who they are, and we even had a quick look (with marigolds and much disinfecting of hands afterwards) to see if there was a letter with their address on so we could do just that. No luck.

My initial thought is something sticky AND stainy to teach them a lesson, but preferably not something dangerous. I'm leaning towards treacle, but not sure how I would make sure it gets on them?!?!?

Mr Next Door does have CCTV, but I'm not sure if the police would have time to deal with Bin Wanker right now

They are coming through the gate and up a flight of steps, it's in our front garden.

Put treacle on the handle (or shit).

Ask to view neighbours CCTV and see if you recognise them, then deliver their waste back to their doorstep.

Actually not the handle, the bit where you lift the lid, otherwise you will get covered when you move the bin.

Exploding dye you say....I can't lock the gate because we share the entrance with our neighbour. I will ask the neighbour if he minds taking a look at his CCTV but in the meantime, my plan is for DH and I to take it in turns to sit in the front room and WFH, I just need to find a position where I'm not conspicuous but I can see outside. Then I will confront them.

The rubbish is strange as well. Several England football shirts. It's like someone is doing a clear out and is using our bins as a receptacle

I'll order a bin lock. But I'd really like to find out who they are so I can return their crap, because I need my bin space!

Ok I've looked at exploding dye but I don't want to do anything I can be arrested for. That would be really shit. Although then I would know who it was, because they would be permanently green.

I'm now wondering if I can get some sort of alarm that makes a loud honk or something when they open it. Then I'd know they were there and it might alarm them. They're doing this in broad daylight. The bin was half full when my husband went to the shop and was crammed full when he came back.

I had very good success when people decided to steal my planters ..... I put dog poo in them ...
as to how you return the rubbish, if you can’t identify the culprit by their waste or catching them in the act, (cctv?) then I think you may have to concentrate on stopping them from gaining access to your bin. - bin lock/ padlock/locking in your shed if you have one. Etc

What about a personal alarm and duct tape? It’ll go beserk when they open the lid and even if they complained to someone you claim it was a practical joke for dh?

Wonder if the “oh shit that was meant to get dh” would work with the exploding dye...
