Covid

AIBU to ask whether you have cancelled or postponed travel/holiday due to Coronavirus

Up until this weekend I was relatively relaxed about Coronavirus. However, I was due to go to Dublin with work this week for a conference and my organization (global business) has temporarily banned attendance at conferences and all non- essential business travel due to Coronavirus.

It has caused me to read up a bit more about it and I am feeling a bit more anxious about it all. I am a chronic asthmatic very prone to chest infections which usually result in one hospital visit a year.

I am meant to be going to Lanzarote with my family including mum, brother, my husband and children for holiday in early April, a little over a month away. I see there is now a confirmed case in Tenerife!

I mentioned to my family that we may need to keep an eye on it and could need to cancel postpone if things escalate. Most thought this was an overreaction. Maybe it is. I wasn’t saying we definitely should but just wanted to put on their radar that we may need to.

Has anyone else postponed travel or holiday plans in light of this virus?

I'm also a severe asthmatic with chronic lung disease, the cases in Europe as really starting to scare me, as we're in the most vulnerable group of people.

There is an Italian family at DD's school who cancelled their visit home this week specifically due to Coronavirus.

Yes it is the Europe element now making me nervous. Friends of mine have cancelled a holiday they had planned to make to Dubai which I think is understandable.

We are due to be going to Rome for the rugby on 14 March. Not sure we will be going or where we stand cancelling. Keeping an eye on news!

We are due to go to Greece in May and I made sure we have 'pandemic protection' in our insurance. Cost a small fortune but sadly think highly likely travel will be banned? I hope I'm wrong.

So far we still are planning trips for the summer and will be going on ski holidays in Austria next week. We aren't set to fly anywhere until July so I'm hoping it's all pretty much resolved itself by then.

@RC000 once we get out the winter the tiny amount of cases will drop even further. Flu viruses dont like warmer damp air

I haven't had a holiday other than a couple of weekends in the UK for eight years. This year I'd decided to go away properly (I hate going abroad solo), saved up to do two holidays and this happens. I've not booked anything yet but I need to book time off work. I foresee the usual spending my time off work sitting in the garden.

We're also set to go to Tuscany in May and if it's under quarantine we won't but hopefully it won't be an issue.

There is a hotel in tenerife which has 1000 guests quarantined now due to the Italian doctor case.

I took my family to Sweden last weekend but admittedly it's quite far north in Sweden and there haven't been any known cases there yet. Also only a 3 hour drive so not really a problem to cancel if we'd needed to. Have UK flights booked for the summer, I hadn't considered the possibility of cancelling really. But I guess we'll see where the situation is at by then.

While I live in Dubai, so can't avoid here. I just paid for my flights to Spain and the Canary Islands for end of March/beginning of April today, so they will have to ground all flights before they stop me from going on holiday!

I’m due to go to Italy in three weeks. Not the affected area, but I would assume they won’t be able to contain it to that region. We’ll go unless the Foreign Office advises against it, because otherwise we won’t get a refund on the incredibly expensive flights. And I want to go, anyway. There are always flu viruses around. Life goes on.

I have a couple of short flights and an early holiday to a family holiday camp. Aargh! All in the uk though.

Not sure what to do. Holiday camp is going to be a breeding ground. Do I go but keep kids out of children’s clubs?

It still seems pretty low at the moment.

I’m going to South-East Asia in 4 weeks. It’s the holiday of a lifetime and has been booked forever. If the plane is still going, I’ll be on it.

We’re going to Malta next week, still going unless the flight is cancelled but there haven’t been any confirmed cases in Malta although they are introducing testing at the airport on arrival

I booked a holiday in April before any of this kicked off and am really uncertain about it now. We’re taking my 10month DD

OP I can understand you feeling as you do given your health issues. I must admit it's made me wary too. We haven't booked ours yet but we've discussed a few places abroad but I'd be quite happy to avoid going and stay in the uk.
