Metformin - can it delay af in the first month you take it?

hi, I've searched archive quickly but just wondered if any experts know the answer please? I started taking Metformin on cd26 of a cycle most recently 28/29 days. No sign of AF as yet, now cd 32. I think I ovulated (if I actually am, consultant thinks so based on progesterone test) on cd17, so guess if that's the case with a 14 day second part of cycle, I might get hit today by the old witch. ...

oh, also does anyone know how long the nausea will stick around for with metformin? I started taking 750g once a day till I read the pack correctly and saw I'm meant to take twice daily. It's the slow release type and I'm taking after meals, avoiding carbs

tks for any thoughts :-)

bump... still no af, now cd33 . cm is clumpy, but feel v moist below... it's not thrush as it's not irritating at all, just heaps of clumpy white / yellow discharge..

this must be the metformin though, right, too coincidental, and i've found various bits now saying it can delay af first month

Hi, I've taken metformin twice because I've got PCOS but I was really irregular before I started taking it so I don't know about it delaying af. The first time I took it I felt hideous for a fortnight but my cycles became more regular and 6 months later, just before I was due to start clomid I got pregnant with DD now 2. I did take it again when we started TTC a sibling for DD but it wasn't as effective. It's often prescribed for women with PCOS so you might find more info on the verity pcos website.

tks for this, yes on the metformin for mild pcos. af was just the one day, and i'm just getting fattter by the day; things which fit one day don't fit the next.

am thinking might ask consultant to send me for a scan (had one years ago and showed mild pcos, ie nothing too grim).

not sure if a large ovarian cyst could stop bleeding

why is all this so complicated!
