Hello ladies (and gents),

Was just wondering how long it took some of you to conceive your first child if this was in your (earlyish) 30's? I am on my 6th month, and basically, without wishfull 'it'll all be ok' thinking I think there is something wrong. I am not panicking, I know there is a lot they can do nowdays, but just from experience with friends and what I see on the boards, if you are ok, it happens very quickly. But we may need some assistance, I sadly feel. So just to check my theory, how long did it take you in your early 30's?

Thank you!

P.S. I had my day 21 and day 3 tests, all ok. DH needs to go in next. Is it just my DH or do they all take their time? This was privately btw...

Thanks Lib76, that's encouraging! Good luck to you too. My hubby's business partner is 50, his wife 42 and they conceived twice (last time just 3 months ago) first month they tried! I mean, really!? I am joking, I wish them all the best in the world, it's just weird how superfertile some people are!

It took me two months, but I spent about a year 'tracking' my fertility on a website so I could tell when I was ovulating etc.

I was 31 and it took about 4 months. I was very healthy and my cycle was like clockwork.

Second time around I was 33, tried for 3 months then got pg and had an early MC. Then got pg again the next month and it was fine that time.

Hi MountainFairy
Don't assume just because it's not quick that it won't happen. Yes some people do seem to be very lucky and conceive immediately (or maybe they just don't tell you the whole story ) but for others just being patient is what it takes. It's not easy I know, I have been through it and have 2 lovely DC to proove it even though it's been a bit rough along the way. My "stats" on them are:
TTC 1 month - conceived but unfortunately MC'd
TTC 6 months for DS (I was 29 when I had him)
TTC 3 months - unfortunately genetic abnormalities and we terminated in the end
TTC 6 months for DD (I was 31 then)
Now I am TTC no. 3 - TTC 6 months so far. Driving me mad again and hoping I don't have to wait much longer.
So though I was a little younger when I started (not much) I do think it's similar enough and I am just trying to say for some of us it takes a little longer but we get there in the end. Of course it's always worth testing to check things are all well - I've been the first to get checks done when time has felt right and I do feel following your instincts is important.
It is hard waiting though and absolutely know where you are coming from.

DD1 was born a month after my 33rd birthday. It took us 13 months to conceive her, although in those 13 months, we got married, I started a new job and we moved house. She was conceived 2 months after the move. Stress played a part there I think...

DD2, I got pg first month trying, born 2 months after my 35th. DD3 took 7 months, born when I was 37.

Good luck!

32 - 20 months, visited the GP to start investigations (which I would recommend you do too if you are concerned BTW) but concieved naturally in the end.

37 - 30 months, more problems than I can list (none apparent first time round - blast you, you dastardly secondary infertility you). Ended up getting pg with our first round of IVF.

Good luck - it's worth the wait and the heartache.

Sorry - just reread OP and realised that if you've had your tests you must also have been to doctor, doh.

I'm 33 and it took us 2 months. One month of trying really casually, but I now know I'd already OV'd before we tried that month. The next month we used CBD OPK's and I found that I OV a bit early than I thought and we got pregnant that cycle.

I am 32 and am 6 weeks pregnant, fingers crossed it all works out. Conceived first month, but just lucky I think: my friends are the same age and it has taken 5 months, 6 months, and over a year, but they all now have healthy babies, so there's a lot of variation. Good luck!

Are you charting? I would strongly recommend it.

Hi,

I was 34 and conceived first month of trying after being on the pill for 16 years! But I'm convinced it's all down to luck...

Had an MC at 5 weeks but then 6 weeks later was PG again and my DD is now 9 months old.

All down to luck, timing and lots of BDing!!

Good luck hun.

Hi, I know I'm not the right age bracket to ans this but I just wanted to say, it's prob ok and not to panic. You have plenty of time. The ages I did conceive were 37 2mths and 39 1st mth. But because of paranoia about age I had read Zita West's book about how to get pregnant and I have a v healthy lifestyle. I would recommend Zita, the first thing she says is that often people come to her and they simply aren't having enough sex! My friend in her mid 30's took two yrs to conceive and now has a healthy happy baby.

Try and be careful about going down a road where you become stressed about it, it's early days yet. Best of luck

Hi MountainFairy

Conception #1 @ 32: first month of trying but MMC at 10 weeks
Conception #2 @32: fourth month of trying after MC - DS , now 18 months, used OPKs.
Conception #3 @ 34: first month of trying but MMC at 8 weeks. Took a while for my periods to return.

I've just turned 35 and we're on our fourth month of trying. I'm using OPKs again.

Everyone's different and you have a very good chance of conceiving but I know it feels so difficult sometimes. Good luck

Just opened the e-mails and read all your lovely messages! Thank you. Well, I suppose there is a good variety. It's encouraging to know it still happened naturally for some people after months of trying. I think my hubby is going to make an appointment as we speak, so let's see where that takes us. In the meantime I will keep away from the childbrith boards!!

Thank you girls.
