af was two week ago today but my cycle is only 26 days, just done todays test and is still negative. i only started doing them monday thinking tues/wed would have been my positive days but still nothing.

do you think it will happen over the weekend or have i maybe missed it over last weekend?

first month using the tests so a bit unsure.

Hey,
I'm not an expert but it seems to me you could maybe have missed it. If you ovulate 14 days before AF, that would be about on CD12 - ovulation tests can give you positives 12 to 72 hours before ovulation, so might have been positve on Sunday or even Saturday.
Also, it could be that your luteal phase is longer than 14 days (the normal range is 12 to 16 days; though it will be fairly consistent for each individual woman). In which case a possible positive could have been even earlier.

On the other hand, it is fairly common to have quite short luteal phases. Say yours is only 10 days - that would mean you ovulate on CD 16, and perhaps the tests will show positive tomorrow or on the day after!

And then again, there is a third possible explanation. It might be that the tests just don't work for you. There are quite a lot of women who are certain that they ovulated but never got a positive. There can be many reasons for this. The LH-surge which is captured by the tests can be very short and only measurable within a time period of 6 hours - it is easy to miss it by testing before and after and never know that it would have been positive in between.

So in sum, you need to gain some experience with these things. Perhaps you will find out that you usually ovulate around CD11 (and thus missed it this time), or around CD16 (and thus will get a positive tomorrow or so). Or you will find out that indeed you usually ovulate around CD14 but didn't get a positive this month because you tested at the wrong time of day.
Either way, you will have gained some useful knowledge about your cycle!
Good luck

Hi
I have been doing the tests for 2mths i also have a 26 day cycle and have been possitive on day 16 if you can try to test twice a day as you have more chance of showing possitive .I also find for a few days the test line starts to get a little darker before the surge .I know it is really frustrating using these tests and if i do not get my bfp this months not to use them next mth just going to try a plenty of BD lol good luck and hope you get your bfp soon

bigmuther65 - I'm a bit confused.

I really don't want to worry you but you said that you have a 26 day cycle and you get a positive on an OPK at day 16. Doesn't that mean that you therefore don't ovulate until day 17-18. Meaning your Luteal Phase (the second half of your cycle) would be only 8-9 days. I've been reading up on short Luteal Phases cos I've had probs with it and most places say anything under 10 days is too short. If I've got the info wrong then pease forgive me but I wanted to point it out to you as it seems you are actively TTC and I would rather someone mentoned it to me - IYSWIM.

If you've recently stopped contraception that could be contributing to it. Really sorry to stick my nose in I'm just a bit obsessed about it at the mo and it didn't feel right not to check with you.

that actually crossed my mind as well hippychick.

i have no idea about what problems it would cause but it does seem very short.

I don't really understand it my self my cycle at the moment is 26days and my lines on the opk start from about day 13 but have had a very dark line ie possitive on day 16 i have not just come of contraception but i have had 2 mc this year.I am a bit worried now that you have said this is not normal as i have only started to use the tests for a few months to try and incress my chances of becoming pg

Perhaps you should check with your GP. If you get the go ahead from the sticks on day 13 that would be fine cos you'd be Ovulating day 14/15 and that would give you a 10/11 day Luteal Phase. But if you Ov later then it could be a worry. This cycle i think that I ov'd on day 16 and then AF arrived day 24 - which means there was only 8 days for any possble embryo's to try to implant - which is not long enough. This has only happened to me since i had the coil removed - before the coil I had 28 day cycles. Perhaps the MC's have contributed and your body is still getting back to normal.

I really didn't want to open up a whole can of worms for you - especially as you have now told me of the heartache you've suffered already, but I think it's best for us to know as much as possible.

I saw no problem with having short cycles until I happened to see someone mention LPD on one of these threads - further investigation showed me it was Luteal Phase Defect and now I'm using progesterone gel to try to increase the length of my cycles - if I hadn't found about it I wonder how many months of trying I would have wasted.

Well done for getting the sticks to work for you - the last two months i haven't been able to get an answer from them and am only judging my ovulation by CM and nagging pains which i am guessing are ovulation. This month I have decided to start taking temp to try to work out exactly what day i ov - so I can be really sure how long my LP is. Good luck, let me know how you get on.

Just re-read your message muther and I'm thinking that maybe the positive on day 13 is telling you you'll ov soon and the day 16 positive, which is darker, is telling you it's about to happen. It would just about be ok to Ov on day 16 and then start AF on day 26 cos that would be a 10 day LP. However, some sites say that women need a minimum of 12 days to truelly give the embryo a chance so I still think you shoud mention it to a medial person. If you Ov'd on day 13 and had a 26 day cycle that would be absolutely fine - and you may not need to worry at all.

Please say you're not mad at me for pointing this out - I'm really worried about mentioning it now

hi hippychick you have not mad me mad bless you hun God this ttc is stressful stuff sometimes these tests are more trouble that there worth. I do not seem to have trouble getting pg so not to worried it's just that after 2 mc you do start 2 worry about wether it will happen .I have 2 ds but with the younger one being 13 never worried about it back then .I have always just gone along with what my body tells me and try to only use the opk as a guide i would say this month i had the ovulation pains around cd 15 but saying that even though i seem to have gone on a 26day cycle my first couple of days on seem light spoting. My cycle before my 2 mc have always been 28days so maybe my body is not quite back to normal.I was just trying to say that when yada was worried about not having a possitive test it could still happen . The only way to get pg is lots of nookie which i will be doing rather that stress my self out with these tests .

Thanks muther. I'm so glad I didn't do anything wrong. I know what you mean - when I got preg before I just got on with it. Now i'm taking my temperature and peeing on every bloody kind of stick there is!!!

Good luck to you with getting preg and getting it to stick. It sounds like you're almost having 28 day cycles if the first two days are spotting - that's another thing I have trouble with - deciding what is day 1.

Anyway, go have some nooky and if you have any good news for me come and find me - I hang out on the over 40's strand a lot.

Hippy hugs Muther and wanders off to watch Doc Martin .
