i was feeling really moody so went to see gp and a blood test has shown i have an over active thyroid, ive been put on a beta blocker to slow pulse down and another drug to slow down production of thyroxine. we were trying for a baby but gp says i cant get pregnant now im on this medication,i totally forgot to ask how long i will need to take this medication, but all i know is she has made appointment to see a consultant, has anyone out there had a baby and had this too.

Hey there Tayto, didn't want to read and run.
I have the opposite problem as my thyroid is underactive. But from reading around i do know that it may be temporary (usually after pregnancy) but for most it is for life. Overactive thyroid is often treated with tablets and sometines they irradiate the thyroid which then leaves the patient underactive.
I know that being underactive doesn't stop you getting pregnant as long as you are medicated. Sorry i can;t be much more help
Hopefully there are many others out there who may know more.
Take Care x

hi shauri
its funny you should say it may be temporary after pregnancy as i had a baby 3 months ago and we started trying for baby two a month ago. i know what your thinking im mad and thats why i didnt say i had a 3 month old. we are trying so quickly for two reasons one it took us 4 years to get our dd and the second is because my husband has just turned 40. i hope someone out there knows more about the condition and can advise me, but thanks for your info its very helpful xx
