Temping experts - if sleep is disrupted, is your temp likely to be higher or lower as a result?

Does anyone know the answer to this? I THINK i've ovulated now and had a temp rise but this morning I had to get up at four with my DD, and didn't go back to sleep properly, so not sure what to think of the temp I took at 7am. Would it normally be higher or lower as a result of activity, or ... does it depend!

Thanks in advance.

It would be higher - and one temp rise in isolation is also pretty meaningless! Are you temping-with-internet-help or are you making graphs on your own?

Hi idealcamel. With internet help (fertility friend), but desperate to see a sustained rise as have been waiting for ovulation for EVER this month (I've had a seemingly endless period of EWCM, although having said that it DID finally end the day before the first temp rise)!

I just think that this morning's rise (which would have been the third in a row) may be invalid as a result of my disrupted early morning. Having said that, I took it again just after I had properly got up and it had gone down from 36.3 to 36.2 and when I put either one into FF it still thinks I've ovulated ...

I think I probably need to chill out about the whole thing, don't I!

Ah, maybe! Temping is designed to drive you insane - I put mine into Fertility Friend this morning and it moved the date that I'd ovulated to CD13 from CD11 - thus meaning that any smug feelings about perfectly-timed sex took a sharp nose dive.

I think waiting to see what tomorrow's temp is might give you a clearer picture. Which doesn't help at all! Just FYI: FF's advice seems to be - if you have to get up, take your temp then as it will be after the longest period of undisturbed sleep.

Oh no, how annoying! I have a love hate relationship with Fertility Friend. It's amazing how long I can spend gazing at graphs! I keep thinking that I'm going to chuck it all in (FF that is not TTC) but can't quite bring myself to throw away the thermometer! Anyway, I will do that in future should DD decided to get up at 4.30am again! Please God she doesn't though! Good luck with TTC.

I sometimes (shh) over-ride FF when it's being silly. I have lots of disrupted sleep at the moment (teething 10 month old) and I find the main effect is a chart that looks like this WWWWWWWWW or this vvvWVVvvVvV as opposed to a nice square root type one.

I still usually get a noticeable difference between pre-O and post-O temps though, even if they're "rocky", so my advice would be to note the next few days' temperatures and see if there's a pattern.

(Am a bit of an FF geek, sorry... .)
