Conception

How long did it take you to conceive the second time compared to the first time?

DH and I want to have a second child next year and although I know that there are lots of contributing factors that affect conception I just wondered what your experiences were in terms of comparing first with subsequent pregnancies.

[With DS we were lucky enough to get pregnant the second month of trying.]

Thanks.

You'll wish you hadn't asked!
Dd - 4 months of trying
2nd pg - 2 years (I'm now 19wks pg)

It was put down to unexplained infertilty as neither of us had anything obvious 'wrong' physically. I put it down to being 3 years older, and plain bad luck. We ideally wanted a gap between no1 and no2 of at least 3 years but something made us started trying when dd was 15m old. I'm very glad we did! Dd will be just 4 when no2 is born.

But remember, everyone is completely different.
Good luck!

With dd - first time we tried.

Now pregnant again and due in Jan 06 - not planned - first time had unprotected sex since dd was born last October - I thought we were safe!

I'm 38 so it's not all doom and gloom for older mothers!

long time with first one, second month with second.

That is the case for a number of friends too. One friend who had problems second time around was diagnosed with underactive thyroid - once that was treated it was 1-2 months.

Conceived DS 2nd month of trying. Not so easy next time. Took a year to conceive (m/c) then 9 months (m/c) then 2 months (am 27 weeks). I was 34 first time around and 38 now. I think age has something to do with it, part there are so many other factors (including sheer good / bad luck) it's impossible to judge.

Bexi,

DS1 took 14 months to conceive - had just started initial infertility investigations when I fell pregnant.

DS2 took a shocking one month!! We nearly fell over backwards when I got a positive pg test.

About 6 weeks with DS.

One moment of passion just before Christmas with this one .

I think we might be rather fertile.

1st child ...1st month
2nd child...7th month

make sure you leave it along time after you come off the pill (if you are on it) as it tooks ages for my cycle to settle down.

ds1 one month
ds2 one month - he was a bit of a shock as we'd read that it takes longer for the second one usually, so we ended up with only 17 months between them (although it's fine of course)

DD - 6 months.

Baby No. 2 (in utero) - 6 months.

I was 31 when DD was conceived and 34 with this conception.

dd1 was a persona accident. 3 months after we married I ovulated 3 days earlier than I had done in the previous 9 months! Result a beautiful dd.
dd2 "One moment of passion" following me saying perhaps we should consider trying in 3 months time.
Like Piccadily circus "I think we might be rather fertile". I was 38 with dd2. Now at 42 I think I've had my lot and I'm wondering on how to remove that fertility

DS1 took 8 months. Number 2 took 1 month. Think we'd got the hang of it by second time round.

On 1st effort for 2nd child just as it was for 1st child. And I'm no springchicken (was 34 and 35/6)

dd1 - 1 month (aged 25)
dd2 - 1 month (aged 26)
db - 2 months (aged 33)

And in actual fact with dd1 and 2 I was pg within about a week of trying each time - obviously decided at the right point in my cycle! We were expecting this db (due July)to take longer to conceive due to my age but it didn't really.

DD1 wasn't tried for at all; Dd2 took about six months.
