TTC after coming off the pill - Anyone else?

Hi I took my last pill on the 4th July and took 33 days to get AF. Now suffering as AF is really heavy and got stomach cramps - I forgot the pleasures of real AF as been on pill without much of a real break for about 4 years again!

(I was on Microgynon)

Anyone else TTC after coming off the pill? What are your experiences?

hey, my first period after coming off the pill (i was on microgynon too) was always a miserable affair. see what the next one's like. don't worry about the 33 days, that's fine too. if that's longer than your normal cycle, then it'll have used the extra days to maliciously stock up on painful clots. Welcome back to the land of the unpredictable AF! Good to give your body a break every so often. Get yourself a hot water bottle, a glass of red wine to replace your iron levels and a pint of ben and jerry's funky monkey (for the serotonin in the bananas, of course).

Glad I'm not the only one - am currently lounging on the sofa stil in PJ's thinking bout making a move and having a shower! Thinking the wine and ice cream sound like a great idea but might wait til bit later in the day!

Thinking back to before pill think I used to be about 28 days ish rather than 33.

Are you TTC?

7 weeks but started to bleed at weekend. viability scan at 2.30 today, so just sitting on the couch with laptop & tv remote all day. posting on everything! fngrs x'd

My first af after coming off microgynon was awful,really heavy,had loads of spots and just felt crap! Also it did'nt arrive til day 37.
Am ttc no.3 Just hoping i get a bfp this month as can't face another real AF!It will only be my 2nd though so i can't complain but still dont want another one!

Tobago04 welcome! I feel crappy today and is heavy as hell! How long til testing time? Goodluck with the trying. I'm only TTC no.1 so this is all new to me and am really excited about whole thing but tryin not to be cos I guess it can take a while to get pg.

Hi, I took my last pill (microgynon) on 30th June and still no AF. Had some cramping and brown spotting on Friday so thought she was on her way (that was cd35) but then she didn't show up. Am wondering whether that could possibly have been implantation bleeding or just a ridiculously light AF as first month off pill.

Am TTC no.2 so am sometimes in two minds as to whether I could manage with DS (16 months at the moment) and a newborn, and then at other times I'm really broody!

Hope your grotty AF doesn't last too long and you can get cracking with the fun part

Good luck with scan Nogoodnicknames I had bleeding at 6 weeks with DS and it all turned out fine.

Thank you bluesnowfalcon,i'm on cd 20 i think,but i'm not going to test til 1st sept as i did loads of tests last month and ended up having a 37 day cycle,i'm just trying not to think about what day i'm on so i don't test early
Hi pippin,there is 20mths between my 2dds and they play great together,of course they have their moments too! I'm sure you'll be fine,I'm ttc no.3 and feeling the same,my dh is alot more certain than me

pippin hi and welcome! From what i've heard you'll be lucky to escape if that really was your AF but somehow doubt it for a mo - any pregnancy signs?

tobago04 easier said than done not thinking about it isn't it! good luck waitin til 1st sep but let us know how you go.

i finished my last pill pack july 17th....
and oh god do i feel like rubbish already, im aching from one hip to the other across my lower abdomen!!
i assume its my insides waking up again, was only on pill this time for 3 1/2 years since i had DS in 2006. but i dont remember these aches last time i came off after 5 years
Not looking forward to real AF whenever it appears

MrsDmamee I had a range of aches and wierd feelings about a week before I should have been due AF - various things that could've been pg symptoms! Hope you start feelin better soon.

My horrid AF seems to be calming down a bit don't feel quite as awful today as yesterday! Hope the worst is over

Well no sign of AF and have been feeling really grotty and exhausted so tested today and BFN so AF must be taking a bit longer to come back. Hope it shows up soon and I can then get some sort of idea about my cycle etc.

Thanks tobago04 I'm sure it'd be fine with 2 really but I can't help worrying that I'll be making everything a lot harder for myself, and DH is the opposite to yours, it's me doing the persuading in our house! You'll have to let me know how you get on with 3...!

Hey snap pippinn!

I came off microgynon on 28th of june as TTC no. 2 and have no idea what is going on now. I took a test last tues but got a BFN and then for the last week have had a bit of blood every morning but no cramps etc so don't really know what to do now!

I am really tempted to test again this week but don't know if am being hasty and should hold out to see what happens next month.

thanks blue.....im still feeling quite achy in the whole pelvic area AF hasnt appeared yet after a week and a half of feeling like ive been dragged threw a hedge backwards!!
DH is secretly hoping im pg already

Good luck all of you!

I'm planning on coming of my pill this time next month and am nervous about my first bleed. Been on it for 8 years and due to a change to a single hormone one, haven't had any bleeding at all for 2 years. Also buying a house so will be DIYing whilst having possibly painful period.

At least I know I won't be alone!

when i came off the pill i was told to wait at least 3 months before ttc to get hormones out of system, is that wrong then?
i may come off the pill october but thought i had to wait then?

ilovetochat I didn't seek advice just spoke to friends who had come off pill to ttc and they didn't wait particularly they just went for it! Don't know what dr opinions are but when I rang for help as I was late and testing neg they just said it was normal not to fall back in to a normal cycle and to sit back relax and enjoy it! No one said not to ttc so we are enjoyin ourselves but not getting hung up over dates and best times etc.

thanks bluesnowfalcon, imo its best to relax and not get hung up on dates and constant testing as it stresses you out.
i suppose thats easy said if it happens quickly.

Came off pill mid July. TTC no 2. Had heavy period but now on day 15 of cycle. Was told would never be able to have children naturally and was referred for IVF. Got all the drugs etc in and then discovered I was pg with dd1 on the day I was due to begin the drugs! Don't really know if no 2 is a possibility but we'll see. Good luck to all.

My sister (biomedical scientist) said to leave it until after 2 normal bleeds as otherwise the hormones aren't out of your system properly.

Not a problem but it's why there are so many twins about apparently as your body goes into overdrive.....

Hi folks, I was on the pill for 6 years and just came off at the start of July. AF came earlier than expected (after only three weeks) and this month I'm on day 22 of my cycle so hoping for no AF this month (fingers crossed anyway ).

As for leaving it for two normal bleeds, there is no need if you have been on the oral contraception. It can make it easier for working out dates but the chemicals don't stay in your system for very long hence why you can get pregnant after missing a single pill. I'm a biologist too (working in pharmaceuticals) but checked through everything with my doctor before TTC and she was more than happy for us to start straight away.

Hope everyone has lots of luck whether you decide to wait or not!!!

Hi I am new to this so hello to everyone. I had been on the pill (ovysmen) for over 20 years on and off (mainly on!) My doctor told me not to wait for a 'normal' period after coming off the pill as it is a good time to ttc. I came off the pill in July and began my last period on 20th July. I did a test last week as no period - it was negative. I have done one today and guess what... its positive!!!! I am absolutely gob smacked as I am 39 and it will be my first child!!! I thought it would take me ages but there you go. Just thought I would share. Congrats to everyone who is pregnant and fingers crossed for those ttc xx
