hi, i was wondering if anyone has had any experience with trying to get pregnant after having the depo provera. I have only had 2 and it is due to run out on the 29th of this month. My partner and i have decided to try for our final baby and we are hoping it will happen quick. I am getting a little worried as i posted this on netdoctor.com and had a reply saying she had had 3 injections and a year and a half later periods just coming back to normal and still not pregnant. Any one with the same story, or hopefully a different story??????????????????

There is a study here:

depo

Its pretty old now, but it seems to be the most often quoted study looking at return of fertility after using deop-provera.

You will hear all sorts of time frames because it will be different for everyone. Some women will fall pregnant within a few months of the last injection...others will find it takes a year or more.

Keep in mind, however, that it can take some couples who have not used any form of birth control a year or so as well.

My periods did not come back for over 18 months. I thought I had secondary infertility and was being investigated at hospital. I only had one period and fell pregnant a month later though. Good luck!

thanks everyone for your input. I have never had a problem conceiving before, i got my son whilst on the pill taking anti biotics with sickness and the other i then had a coil and got pregnant on that but lost the baby, followed by my daughter then two more losses, so hopefully should be fine. just needed to get a bit of piece of mind that it may not take years (but it might). lol oh well wish i had not took the bloody thing now!!!!!!!!!! x

Hi, my periods returned to normal quite quickly, not sure how long but not long enough to cause me any concern.
It took me 4 years to get pregnant, which at the time I had put down to the injection, however I am now almost into my second year of trying for DC2 it is more likely to be just me.
Hope that was helpful.

By the way I forgot to say, I have used no contraception since coming off the injections over 6 years ago, so it is unlikely, if not impossible that the injection is causing the delay this time round.

Don't want to do this but
Had one depo injection and have suffered ever since Conceived about a 18mnths after and lost baby.Only became succesfully pg after taking st johns wort for depression (caused by being unable to conceieve and the tremendous weight gain the injection caused as heightened testosterone in my body.
Best thing when you've been of it for a month is see if doc will check hormone levels if you don't want to be trying and failing for to long.
