Hi,
Just wondered if anyone thats had a mc got pregnant after their first period? We want to try again, but are hoping it doesnt take to long to concieve.... a lot of people have said that it takes up to a year to concieve again, but can't wait that long.. any insight would be good, thank you.

There's a theory that you're extra fertile after a miscarriage.

I had one period and then conceived straight away. It took 14 months to achieve the lost pg.

it is ok to ttc again as soon as you feel ready (so long as you have had the all clear from the hospital, can i suggest making sure you have a neg test so you know whwre you are at,

i got pg after my mc with no period in between and i didnt know if i was newly pg or if something was still hanging around from my mc

blood tests confirmed a new pg but it was stressful finding out,

good luck in ttc again

A lot depends how late your MC was as that affects how quickly your hormones sort themselves out.

I MC'ed at nearly 12 weeks in mid Nov - first AF in January. We didn't even try TTC in Feb, and I'm now 5 wks pg again

I had a MMC at 12 weeks and a positive on an ovulation test 9 days ago. I have had no period in between and am quietly hoping for a positive hpt on Saturday (although I know my chances are slight.) Like you I am desperate to be pg again and I feel better just by being proactive about it. Good luck!

This is a perfect thread for me! I'm new here (since yesterday evening) and I am also so, so keen to get pregnant with my third at the ripe ol' age of 40. I had a mc (at 6 weeks) starting on 23 March. I think the hardest part about miscarrying is switching from elation at being pregnant to disbelief and shock when the bleeding starts in a few minutes. The resignation came for us a few days later as doctors were in two minds about whether I was really miscarrying or not. Anyway I've just started my first period this Sunday - rather heavy, I must say. We decided to TTC right away and I was kind of hoping I was pregnant as I was getting really sore breasts, which I never do with normal cycles. The doctor didn't say I should wait and the mc was natural, thank God!!!
It would be great if we could support one another over the next few weeks as it's wonderful to be able to TTC again but a little scary too. Is anyone out there checking ovulation dates? Let me know!

I want to thank everyone for their support,i never used this site before and its nice to see people that care.
It would be great jardins to go through this together i mc in march and have just had my first period, i am waiting for it to finish to do a preg test, i told my hubby its the first time we want the test to be neg!!
My doc told me we could try after my first period, it took 6 weeks to get here and at last is here. I'm hoping by some of the comments on here it will happen quickly but others have told me it will take about a year but to think it won't happen until then is just mind blowing.
Good luck to you jardins xxx

Have a good day Angelfifi. I'd love to share this month (and beyond?) with you. I'll be in touch. I'm surprised how this first period arrived 'normally' (27ish days after mc) How are you feeling? Are you still in recovery mode after mc or feeling nice and human?

I don't think I'll be buying ovulation predictors though .... I dunno ... what about you?

Bye for now.

Angelfifi · 21/04/2009 13:34

Well i have to say i was tempted to buy ovulation predictors but not sure what to do, i have had a normal period no heavier or lighter than usual so i'm hoping everything is back to normal. I still feel confused as to why it happened but otherwise i'm ok.
How are you feeling? Have you ever used ovulation predictors before? just wondering what the best ones to use are as i haven't gone down that road before! Been looking on ebay to see if i can get a cheap one!!
Take care, speck soon. xx

Hi Angel,

Just one more to add into the mix. I got preg early 2007, had MC at 6.5 weeks, then got preg again without period in between. DD now 15 months. We were very fortunate and I really would have struggled with waiting.

But, there were a few problems early on in preg with DD (heavy bleeding, suspected ectopic then suspected mc) and at the time a couple of doctors said that it's worth waiting three cycles so that your hormones/uterus have had a chance to calm down etc

I'm sure in your position I'd go ahead anyway just thought I'd mention it.

Best of luck with TTC

I dunno Angelfifi about the ovulation predictors. I used a batch during one month and I got a reading but no BFP at the end. My periods are certainly not as regular as clockwork generally but they could be a lot worse. I think I will hold out for a month or two without just because I have this daft thing about doing things fairly naturally. Hope that's not too daft or I'll be losing out.

What about your cycles? Are they reliable? Would predictors make you feel more in control?

Our challenge in the next two and a half months will be coinciding fertile days with the two or three days a week my husband will be home from his new job in Tours (here in France) which he started 3 weeks ago (just after the mc) Fortunately the whole family will be moving to Tours in July.

Write soon.

Took a year for me to get pregnant (PCOS), but miscarried at 7 weeks. Got pregnant again on third cycle after miscarriage, and was so surprised because we'd only had sex once that month and it wasn't that close to when I ovulated. 22 weeks now, having a boy, and all is well (or all is well with the baby, I'm a bloody mess, but that's another story!).

Hi all, so sorry to hear about your mcs.
I was diagnosed with a mmc in Jan at 10.5 weeks, had an ERPC beginning of Feb. AF returned like clockwork 28 days later. Since then I have been temping as I find it very reassuring to see that I appear to be ovulating again. (i bought my thermometer online for about 4 quid so it's a nice cheap option!). Obviously the only thing which will really help me move on is being pg again, but in the meantime I am finding taking my temp everyday and charting is something constructive I can do, so managing to carry on with everyday life relatively normally while we ttc again! I've heard of lots of people conceiving again straight away after mc, and the consultant we saw said the only reason to wait one cycle, which they recommended, was so that they can accurately date the pregnancy (frankly, i'd happily have taken a nice early dating scan so didn't think this was a particularly good reason to wait!)
Hope this helps.

It's nice to hear othe people's stories. I'm so happy for YanknCock: FAB news. ps Why are you a bloody mess? Or is that thoroughly indiscrete?

Doozerhead I completely agree with the 'nice early dating scan' option: I didn't buy the wait until first period argument.

'A bloody mess' = A nice combo of SPD, ante-natal depression, and severe morning sickness. But the sickness is finally down to 1-2 times a week, and got on some different antidepressants so feeling a bit better. But it hurts when I walk, lift anything, sit wrong, etc etc.

Now that we know it's a boy and he's kicking, I'm not having that 'what the hell have I done' feeling so much anymore. I just wish I could hit a fast-forward button and get to meet him sooner!

Coming up to what should have been my due date in early May, so a little worried about how I will handle it.

I am in the same boat - I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks (day before my scan) in March. I got a negative pregnancy test 2 weeks after and then another test showed I was ovulating a few days later.

Though we have bd'ed like the clappers all that week I don't think I am pg unfortunately as I am in the filthy mood which usually precedes AF!

Never mind ,we shall keep trying.

So sorry to read about all your mc's but at the same time it's nice to know I am not the only one.

Hi all, can I join you too?

So sorry to hear about the MC's. I had a very early one the first weekend in March at 5 and a bit weeks.

We're taking it easy this month and next - then it'll be full steam ahead for a Spring 2010 baby

I hope to see lots of BFP's on here soon, good luck ladies.

Angelfifi, I got pregnant 17 DAYS after I miscarried. I felt very fertile within a week of the miscarriage so I went for it (only one attempt). I have an 8 month old as proof. Was due June 2008 first but ended up birthing August 2008.

Doggus - sorry to hear about your loss - I had a m/c over Easter at 13 weeks (3 days before my scan) but I have two lovely boys to keep me busy .

I am also wanting to pg again straight away but DH wants to wait until after one period at least. It is hard isn't it - hope all those trying get BFP's soon and those who are pg again have happy and healthy times.

PrincessButtercup · 21/04/2009 21:56

Me too, Twilight surfer. My mc was at only 6 weeks and seemed to take the form of AF (bled normal amount for about 5 days). As there was no further bleeding, I deemed it safe to carry on TTC. I'm now 26 weeks pg and all seems fine.

The only issue with getting pg before my first 'official' AF was dating this pg, so had to have an earlier dating scan.

It can work! Good luck!

Beaner - I know just how you felt. I wasn't absolutely sure I wanted a third dc until I miscarried, then my hormones wouldn't let me NOT try for another one and it had to be straight away! I managed to work my way around DH

I had a miscarriage at 7 weeks at the beginning of September last year (at the age of 43, almost 44). I then had 1 period exactly 4 weeks after, and became pregnant again, though also lost that pregnancy at 7 weeks as well at the end of Nov (I was 44 by then).

Am still trying ....... checking everything I can, and appear to be ovulating.
