i finished the pill in oct and had my first AF 4/1/09. (68 days later)i had severe pain a few days before and then a heavy with lots of clots af. (tmi sorry) i have always had very regular cycles and concieved my 2 ds' very quickly (1st month ttc) i am currently on cd31 and have no sign of either AF or a BFP . i dont think ive ovulated this month altho ive had some darkish lines on my opks. my question relates to todays drs app. i explained all of this to her. she was very kind and has reffered me for a scan and blood tests testosterone, progesterone and thyroid function. she then gave me 3 choices.. either go for blood tests today, wait for af and then count 21 days or use opks and when a surge is detected go a week later. i am confused and wondered if any of u have advice/experience. when would you say is the best time to go for the bloodtest? thanks

As the blood test is only a window into that day (according to my dr & acupuncturist) I would wait until it has some relevance. After AF or opks. I went for bloods at a random time as AF went AWOL for 3 months. Test results showed I wasn't OV and dr said I may have PCOs.... BUT had BFP today so that was obviously not the case!! In the meantime I worried for 3 weeks and spent a fortune on natural medicine!!

congratulations on your BFP minxie

did you not have af for 3 months and then get a BFP or have you had a period since all your blood tests.??

also would you reccommend agnus casteus??

As your periods are irregular the blood tests can be done according to calendar days i.e the 3rd and 21st of the month.

Would refrain from using OPK's in your particular circumstances. They are useless if the cycle is irregular. These kits measure LH - if you are one of many women who produces higher than normal levels of LH the kit will read that. Also these kits assume that there is only one rise in LH every month and that such a rise is followed by ovulation - not true.

Self medicating with AC is not ideal as it can make some hormonal imbalances worse.
You'd be better off seeking the advice of a medical herbalist instead.

If you continue to have pain and clots prior to your periods do mention this, you may want to keep a symptom diary.

Thank you so much Bubble - it hasn't sunk in yet!! It's early days so I'm not telling anyone and keeping all things crossed

I came off pill, waited 2 months for AF then had similar clot ridden, painful experience to you. My Dr put it down to first AF off pill and system having a clear out. 42 days later I had a very light AF, used opks (no sign of OV) then had no AF from November. Went to Dr first week of Jan, had bloods, told not OV. The following week I booked in for Acupuncture, Homeopathy and Hypnotherapy. Had one apt for each and started Agnus Castus. Tried AC for about a week, felt awful so did test and BFP!! So I'm BFP 2-3 weeks (according to the clearblue digital thing) with no AF since last November. Saw Dr today who thinks my weight loss may have kick started my OV naturally.

I agree with Attila that self medicating with AC is not a good idea. My hypnotherapist had a bad experience on it, but it does help many women. FWIW I can't answer if it's any good as I felt awful after taking it. That's prob as I was already pregnant though - had massive mood swings, constipation & dry skin!

I would say that the blood test is not the final answer though. Even if it shows you not OV it could be for many reasons. Most women don't OV on some cycles throughout the year anyway. I would def reccommend Acupuncture and healthy diet though

GOOD LUCK with your test and everything that comes next xx

My homeopath was recommended by a friend and she gave me the AC. If you google homeopathy, there is a register and you could find one local to you.

thanks minxie... i found a local herbalist and phoned her. she said that it is fine to take it without even seeing me.. she said it has been used for donkeys years and is harmless. she said i can either pay for her to give it to me or go and buy it from holland and barrat. i gave her a brief outline of my probs over the phone and she said its up to me wether i want a consultation. i hope thats right.

It has been used for centuries but can cause upset to some women, for example those with PCOs. That's why your symptoms should be assessed. TBH I think you could do that yourself on the net, but self-medicating (even with "harmless" herbal medicine) is not ideal. I'd call one more person just for a second opinion and peace of mind. Hope it all works for you

thanks minxie i have done just that. they wernt as friendly as the lady i spoke to earlier but their consultation charges were cheaper.she said that i could use agnus casteus or go and see her and she will make something purely for me but i am goin to stick with the first lady and get some from her.

i am secretly hoping that my cycles right themselves without having to take anything herbal or otherwise. i dont think ive got pcos as ive only had 2 irregular cycles and i have concieved so easily before. i hope its just my body gettin back to normal after the pill.

It probably is just that bubble, and apparently AC is used to regulate all things hormonal - hope it rights itself sooner rather than later
