Has anyone done a frozen embryo transfer or about to do one? Looking for advice!

Hi, we had IVF last year which gave us our beautiful DS now one year old We were very fortunate to also get 7 embryos from that cycle which are currently frozen. We are now thinking about trying to do a FET at the start of next year so I'm looking for any advice / success stories! Did you do anything special to prepare for a FET? It would be good to hear from anyone else about to do a FET too

Thanks!

Hi

I have a FET DS I call him my fishfinger baby :S

He is our first DC, we did one fresh IVF which gave us 12 embryos - put 2 back froze 10. The fresh cycle failed, so we did FET the follwing cycle and got DS (defrosted 4 embies) I found the FET easier than IVF as there were much less drugs involved for me, some women think FET is more sucessful as a result.

good luck TTC#2

DS is a FET baby...well, he was, he's 4.5 now!

I had suspected OHSS after our first fresh cycle, so froze all our embryos and abandoned ET until I was better.

The first FET unfortunately failed - did get a BFP but had a missed MC at 7 weeks

The second we took all our remaining embryos to blastocyst stage and resulted in DS

Will you be doing ET with Day 2/3 embryos, or going the blastocyst route?

I also found FET much easier than a fresh cycle in terms of the lack of the stimulating drugs. I felt really unwell after EC, but very well and positive for both my FET attempts.

Wishing you lots of luck, let us know how you are getting on.

Thanks for your replies Congrats Realitygap and Frightknot on your frozen bubbas! I think the embies are day 2 if I remember correctly. It would be a natural FET for me too, I actually did get OHSS after my IVF and was in hospital for 4 days (I had ET before the OHSS appeared) so I hope that the natural route is less stressful!

Did you change your diet in any way / take vitamins / acupuncture etc? I did everything by the book last time so I am thinking I better get my body back to being a temple again in preparation, even if it's 2-3 months away.

I am very excited but I am also still BFing DS and will need to start weaning him. I really don't want to yet but think I need to to get AF back into a decent pattern so the FET has a better chance.

Might want to double check with your clinic re 'natural' FETs. The secret to FET success is the precise synchronisation of your womb lining with the embryo age - if they are out of synch, the embryo won't be able to implant. On a natural cycle it's impossible to pinpoint ovulation to a window of less than 12-20 hours, whereas with suppression, estrogen and then a trigger shot, the clinic can time it precisely and defrost your embryos to match. My clinic has one of the best frozen cycle success rates in the country, they credit it to not doing natural FETs, and to careful selection of what they freeze.

Good luck in any case, I got pregnant from an FET but had an early miscarriage, but then anecdotal evidence doesn't proove anything!

I didn't have a natural FET we used drugs - I was anovalatory, but the drug route was still much easier then the full IVF route. I was told that I had to be finished breast feeding for a couple of months before we could start - which was wasn't an issue as I had supply issues and DS had started to refuse bfeeding anyway you might want to check your clinic what their policy is

good luck with it

Thaliablogs, what clinic did you use? I am at the Glasgow Royal and they have one of the best FET rates too apparantly, they are even higher than their fresh rates. I will be getting regular scans & / or bloods prior to FET so would they not detect ovulation from that? They only said that if OV fell over the weekend that it would have to abandoned for the next month.
