Premature Ovarian Failure -do you know your FSH level?

Well this may be for Willow and Soapbox only unless we get another "POF" victim

I wondered if you knew your FSH levels.... mine were 89.4 months ago and now they are 16.9

Did you have such a drop... I know 16.9 is still bad (and offers no real hope) but I can feel more "estrogeny" .... spotty, no more hair loss, no more hot flushes...

Did you have that too?

Thanks

Oh god I can't remember exactly. I've had quite a few tests done over the last 2 years.

I /think/ the last one was 28.something???? They have been much higher than that though.

I don't want to upset you, but I do remember being told by one doctor that the FSH levels only stay at their highest during the period when ovarian failure begins - the desperate trying to kick out one more egg. Once you are through that phase they drop again I think.

What are your cycles like?? Have you temped using FF - that confirmed to me that I wasn't ovulating!

FF being? Fertility Friend?

I don't have my hopes high at all actually but am glad you are not trying to raise them !
The gynae was also not optimistic generally either.
I have my periods back, cycle was 24 days and should find out tomorrow (hopefully) if the blood tests says I ovulated though I don't think i did ! A few months ago I had EWCM and now absolutely nothing.... how quickly can things go wrong !

Thanks for replying

Good luck for tomorrow. I hope you get some good results.

Yes Fertility friend.

It will be interesting to see whether you are ovulating.

Did your gynae say whether a dose of clomid might just kick out a few more eggs? Apparently we have quite a lot of mature eggs left at the point of ovarian failure but they deteriorate quite quickly. If you still have periods then would have thought that you might still have viable eggs????

Thank you Cristina7 - that is very sweet

He said he might want to try me on ??? (not clomid that I can remember but had no clue what drug he was talking about)....
He did think I was in early stages but he didn't want to raise my hopes and also felt I was not a candidate for IVF as I woulld first need donor eggs.

I cannot remmeber and will have to wait until 25/4 to see him aagin.
I will probably ahve a bone density scan done on France when I go there on holiday.... it costs 50 euros.
It should give me a good reading of my bones now....
Have you had one done?

It must feel like a long time between appointments when time seems to be running out!

I haven't had a bone density scan done yet - but I think its too early anyway. There wouldn;t have been sufficient time for it to have deteriorated yet apparently. Also as I'm having HRT it becomes less of an issue in the short term.

I will give the HRT another couple of months but having just completed one cycle I have to say that I feel much worse with it that without it. The whole having a period again was awful - really bad and far outweighed any benefits I felt earlier in the cycle!

Interesting.... I may continue this specific exchange by e-mail if you don't mind.
Am off to bed now..... It's nice to "know" someone who is going through the same thing.

I want the scan because I am not sure I want HRT and therefore want to monitor my bones before they get "too" damaged if that makes any sense....

Off to bed now though.... thanks Soapbox night night

I'm at home tomorrow so a good time for chatting by email if you are around!

I did try some HRT natural alternatives so can tell you about those if you like! Would be very interested in your views of HRT!!

Sleep well

Well I got really busy today
Spoke to GP - though I don't think she is an expert..... she says she was pleased with results as they weren't too bad,..... she says it looks I am still producing some oestrogen (though eggs are a bit of a mystery). Will e-mail next week - have a very busy WE ahead.
