Hi Im 28 and have just come off the pill and have been trying for a month now. I have just realised after reading all these posts that I have been really stupid and did not get myself checked for rubella. My mum lost her first baby to rubella full term when it was an hour old. I feel so unbelievably stupid and worried now and am wondering what I should do? Any advice would be appreciated?

Have your rubella status checked with a simple blood test - ask your GP.

I'm not immune to Rubella as was picked up during a blood test when I was pregnant.

Apparently you cannot get a single rubella jab anymore and has to be the MMR.

So, if you are trying, I'm wondering if you can get tested pre conception as post conception, it's too late as they won't give it to you.

the chances are very high you were vaccinated in senior school.

Just ask your GP for a blood test. If you are not immune, you can ask for the vaccine.

I'm a little worried about this. Had blood tests when I first started TTC but don't remember them saying anything about rubella!

I know I had a jab as a kid (in Ireland in about 1972) but am pretty sure I didn't have the one they did in secondary school (in Wales)... am 10 months into trying, should I stop and get tested?

yes I was vaccinated in high school but so was my mum which was why she didn't get tested. But obviously they do not always work. I feel angry that my doctor (a man) did not mention this when I asked him a few months ago about what I should do to prepare. I know its my fault too, but I still think I should have been reminded!
