Numb fingers

Hello everyone. I took a few weeks off MN as was getting obsessed but am now back.

I have numbness in my fingers, particularly the right ones. This has been going on for about a week. I've looked up carpal tunnel syndrome (both my parents had this) but my symptons aren't exactly the same (they include the little finger which carpal tunnel syndrome doesn't). Also my reflexologist said I have water retention in my ankles.

Too early to know if I am pg - am 8dpo. Have booked GP appt tomorrow in case it is because any sinister reason, but in the meantime any advice?

Did anyone else get numb fingers in very early pregnancy - I would be happier if I could convince myself this is A SIGN.

Thanks.x

Been on the computer a lot? My Dh suffers from hypertension, water retention along with other symptoms and this shows up in his hands too - particularly his right hand when he has been on the computer for long periods and the GP thought it was like his own "mouse hand" syndrome! His mouse mad is stretched over to the right a bit and is a little bit of an uncomfortable reach, small repetitive movements irritating the nerves in his fingers. Often worse when the weather is stormy - air pressure - or under stress/worried/not sleeping properly etc.

Not saying it is not a pregnancy symptom of course, just letting you know that it could be a repetitive strain symptom. Sorry probably not the answer you wanted!

Hello! Honeymoon blissful - had period from day we set out (not wedding day though) but at least I relaxed after that.

Have been on computer a lot but no more than usual and that wouldn't explain water retention on ankles would it? But yes, have def considered rsi too. Hope not... apprently there's no cure for that.

Good luck 2BG.

We managed to BD this month on days 10/15/16/19/21/24 (and lots more before that during honeymoon) of 31 day cycle) so fingers crossed!

x

Hi YellowFlowers

I had Carpal tunnel Syndrome and have to admit that I had numb fingers - including my little finger. Another tell-tale sign I had was a really sensitive upper-arm (Like I had been punched?)

I try to stay away from google I always find the worst case scenario explanations on there!

now I keep pressing my upper arm to see whether it hurts!
will tell you what doc says

Just noticed this thread and wanted to say that the month I had a BFP, my right hand (my 'mouse' hand actually) was really numb. It was mostly my pinkies and every so often I had to shake my hand out. I didn't think much of it until I posted about it somewhere on another board and a few people said they had the same. Have you tested yet?

Good luck yellowflowers - sorry that it doesn't seem to be a pregnancy symptom.

If it is Carpal Tunnel - it is very easily treated. I had an operation to release the pressure (I was 21 at the time) and the relief was immediate.

Good luck,

Hiya

Carpal tunnel usually affects the fingers nearest the thumb. I've been referred to physio recently because I've kept being woken up with a numb little finger and the one next to it on the right hand - they suspect it is something to do with pressure on the ulna nerve (in the elbow) and the way it connects at the top of the neck -- related to poor posture / computer use though.
