Best basal thermometer?

Hi, I'm thinking of buying a basal thermometer, in the past have used ovulation tests but thought I'd try using a thermometer to try and help pinpoint ovulation, are they any good, and at what point would you start to use it in your cycle?

I love bbt tracking, i feel like it takes so much of the guesswork out of ovulation tracking. A £10 femometer one from Amazon works great - just make sure to use fertility friend for tracking rather than the femometer app as the latter is pretty crap.

You should start as early on in your cycle as possible as it needs your FP temps to determine if there's been a shift post ovulation

@Juno231 I've never used temping before for ovulation, usually ovulation tests but they were starting to stress me out so thought I'd give this a go. Was having a look at the thermometers on amazon last night, is fertility friend a app you can download? Hopefully if I order one handy will come in time for me to start using this next cycle.

Definitely go with the Fertility Friend app! A bit basic and old school in it's appearance, but so many options for inputting different info and the graphs it plots are super easy to read.

Tracking your BBT obviously only shows that you have ovulated, compared to the LH test strips which show that you are about to ovulate. The LH (ovulation) test strips let me know when it's time to get busy Wink and the BBT shift confirms ovulation.

I also have the femometer thermometer, it's fine.

@Kaw10 I was using the clear blue ovulation tests but they were working out so expensive and I started to get stressed out using them, but I know they do come in handy, debating to just get some less pricey ones to use alongside the thermometer. We've been trying ever since our ivf didn't work few months ago, whether it's just not going to happen again for us or we're just not getting busy enough, I try and not let it get me down, but is disheartening everytime AF shows and also on my mind is ill be 41 next march. These are the thermometers I'm looking at.

@Lauraliverpool yup I've got the £8.49 one but tbh I don't think the other one existed when I bought one early last year! And yes FF is a free app to download.

I use the femometer opks as they're cheap yet work fine - I normally only need 2-3 of them nowadays as I can tell by my ewcm that ovulation is coming. Then bbt nicely confirms it each time :)

Hi girls, I'm jumping on this thread. I've used CB OPKs before, but as @Kaw10 mentioned, these won't confirm ovulation, so wanted to give temping a go. Do you girls use the BBT first thing in the morning? Does it have to be the same time every morning/ is there a preferred time?

@Tinkerbell098 yep you use them first thing, before sitting up, opening your mouth or anything. Same time every day, give or take half an hour.

Keep by your bedside, somewhere you’ll see it as soon as you wake up.
It’s actually how I detected my first BFP - I was one or two days late but I hadn’t tested as hadn’t been tracking or anything for a few cycles however i woke up 3 days late still no period so just out of chance took my temp and it was still high compared to my pre ovulation temps.

Cue a dash to Tesco’s to buy tests and yep big fat positive line!

I found it so helpful to understand my cycle more, i don’t actually ovulate until cd17/18 so I was concentrating my efforts way too early! Once you have a couple of months of pinpointed ovulation you can ease off if you don’t want to become obsessive over numbers

Good luck!

thanks @Juno231 and @Ohpulltheotherone I've just ordered a femometer BBT so will give it a go from when it arrives. It'll take a couple of months to understand the cycle I guess, so I'll use it together with the OPKs until I get the hang of it.

@Juno231 fab will get that one and get the ff app too, and will look at the FF ovulation tests. I did definitely notice ewcm this month, so don't know what happened and seemed to get AF early too.

Can I ask girls, what kind of signs do you get when you're near ovulation or ovulating?.

@Lauraliverpool I suddenly have more energy, it's the only time of the month when I actually want to go to the gym Grin And since I started drinking grapefruit juice every day from CD1, I get tons of proper EWCM around ovulation.

@Kaw10 i find that too, except not the gym 😂 I've got vitamin E to take and been taking Probiotics, I'll get some grapefruit juice too ☺

I get lots of EWCM (i didn't use to but never have a problem since I started taking evening primrose oil) and feel like I could happily bang every man I see 🤣

@Juno231 😂 😂 I might steer clear of the evening primrose oil

Haha ladies!!! Gotta try that EPO now :)
I started temping with femometer and have to say my temps are all over the place. Hope I will be able to decipher it in the next couple of cycles.
