Anyone else TTC after Christmas?

Forgive my excitement, but DP has agreed to start TTC#2 after Christmas Grin just wondering if anyone else has the same plan? I'm going to come off the pill this month to give my body some time to adjust and hopefully get back to a normal-ish cycle before properly TTC.

Is there anything I can do to prepare my body? DC1 was a (very happy) surprise so I've never TTC before Smile

Same here! :)
We already have 2. DS 3.5 and DD 2.5.
Bit apprehensive about trying for a third! I came off the pill in June, I had my 2nd Covid vaccine in august and since then my cycles have been strange. Spotting for 5 days before a period and then the actual period.

My two cycles after stopping the pill were perfect! I conceived first try with both, I'm not expecting that this time as I'm a bit older now.

Glad to be on this journey with you!
We decided to after Christmas so that I can enjoy it this year as I get terrible sickness in the first tri!

@ExcitedtoTry hello! Exciting isn't it Grin which vitamins are you taking if you don't mind me asking? I will pick some up when I next go to the supermarket! I very rarely drink alcohol so don't need to think about cutting that out, but might switch to decaf tea as working from home has done me no favours with my caffeine consumption Brew

@memememememememeplease welcome! Smile funny you say that about the COVID vaccine. I had mine in July and have had lots of spotting since - I never normally have spotting while on the pill Hmm will be interesting to see how/if my cycles regulate now I've stopped the pill as they've always been regular 28 days.

I got awful sickness too for the first 14 weeks. At least we will be able to enjoy some Christmas Wine

Yes, I think so or maybe just before.

DS was conceived in October after first time trying so I really and hoping it'll be the same again. He's 2 now Smile.

I've never been on the pill. Got offered it after having DS... GP said well if we just prescribe it then you can decide. I already decided thank you. I don't want it 🤣

@BlueberrySugar hopefully it happens for you as quickly this time too Smile I used to really get on with the pill before having my 14 month old. Now my body really doesn't agree with it!

I hope so! And for you too.

Oh really? I've never been on it. I read the side effects and just wasn't worth the risk for me personally.

I was working out the other day that if I did get pregnant by x date I need to factor in my holiday 🤣

I’ve gone for the Boots pre conception vitamins (folic acid, zinc & vitamin B6). I also take vitamin D normally anyway. I’ve cut down on my drinking but going to be stricter during the week & save it for Strictly 💃🏻

And SAME with the Covid jab! Cycle was always 28 days before but it’s been 26 to 32 days. Some stop starting too.

I’ve bought ovulation tests just so I can get to know my cycle again.

This is my first btw & I’m 37. Leaving it late Blush

Me too!!

We already have an August baby so we are waiting until after Christmas to avoid another as it’s caused a bit of anxiety with starting school so young.

I’m 33, have 2 children aged 3 and 4 :) conceived my first two fairly easily (each within a few months of “trying”) but I have a feeling it’s going to take longer this time!

I had my coil removed last month and am currently using condoms until past ovulation each month. Taking vitamins and trying to be daily healthy (not too much alcohol etc!). Finding the waiting til December part quite tricky as kind of just want to get on with it now, but don’t want another august baby!

Me!

Well March/April time for me I think. I have an 11 month old (conceived second cycle) and a nearly 4 year old (conceived 1st cycle) but am 39 now to conscious it might not be so easy.

I'm off the pill and tracking cycles which seem to be regular but need to get on the vitamins and exercise plan! I started reading 'it starts with the egg' and threw out all my plastic in the kitchen but then I got busy at work and haven't made it to chapter 2🤣.

Have been looking for a thread to start the pre-journey with 👍

@Bringonbaby3 @Bringonbaby3 I'm the same! DD is an end of July baby and I'm already worrying about her being behind when she starts school. I would love a September-December baby if I was lucky enough to conceive that quickly Smile

Me too. Although it was more when we move house which should be around December! I've been off my pill a while now and have regular cycles. I actually find it really interesting knowing how your body works. One thing I've found is my hair is falling out a lot. I've read online it could be hormonal but then I also read something about covid (positive in june) causing hair loss so not sure which it could be! I'm not taking any vits but I take a daily multivitamin. We haven't been using any protection just pulling out. I would try now but my boyfriend wants to move house first .. annoying haha!! I keep secretly hoping it just happens but December isn't too far away now!! It is exciting.. I'm trying to eat a little healthier and be more active to keep me busy.

Hi ladies - just joining in as my husband and I will also be trying after Christmas! Already have a DD who is 16 months old. She was born in May last year so very happy to have a Spring/early Summer baby but would like to try for an Autumn baby this time round as my birthday is in September and my husband's is in December and we love this time of year. Been off the pill since July and on the folic acid and vitamin D supplements. Fingers crossed we'll be lucky and conceive quickly!

Nice to have others in same situation! I haven’t read that book, just taking the boots conception vitamins and trying to be fairly healthy and exercise more.

We had unprotected sex a couple of days after my period this month but it was a week before my fertile period according to my apps….so fingers crossed I’m not pregnant yet! I think my husband would be disappointed as he’s looking forward to all the activity in Jan/Feb/March!

We are going to try early 2022 for our first baby! We got married on 1st October and should move house in January. I have quite bad PCOS so I’m not sure if it’ll be possible without medical intervention but we’re going to give it a go! Any advice very welcome

Report
MrsSamRowley · 13/10/2021 12:28

@Alexis7890 I'd definitely recommend getting some ovulation sticks and tracking your cycles on an app. I found that I was ovulating much later than the app on its own said so if you use a combination of the two you should get a pretty good idea of what's going on and pinpoint your most fertile days. Good luck with it all! Will it be your first baby?

Hi,

Me! Well December onwards. It'll be our first! So feel pretty clueless.

Any tips/advice is very much welcomed!! Would anyone recommend particular vitamins? For both me and my husband? Although it'll likely be a nightmare getting him to remember to take them!!!

I really need to focus on my diet. I'd preferably like to lose about 20 pounds but know this won't be possible before Christmas (well I doubt it anyway!), but definitely need to make better choices and be more active.

I am a bit nervous to be honest. Has hit me recently just how much I want this to happen! I have PCOS so cycles can be a bit of a nightmare so feel like I've a tough road ahead of me!

@SophieJ21 welcome! I’m the opposite with weight BMI 17/18 but I was the same in my previous pregnancies so hoping it won’t be an issue! Trying to eat more though and put on some weight before if I can. I find it hard to keep it on though.

I’m a bit worried I might be pregnant already! Still haven’t ovulated this Month according to apps but did have unprotected s e x 1 week ago and now feel a bit sick. That can’t be possible right? I’ll be a bit gutted if I’ve slipped up as really wanted an autumn baby this time!

MrsSamRowley · 13/10/2021 13:40

@SophieJ21 the main vitamins you need are folic acid and vitamin B. Some people prefer to take a pre-natal vitamin that has both of those in but they are the only ones you really need. I think if you're both in generally good health you don't need to worry too much. Easier said than done but the best thing you can do is try to relax (very much a 'do as I say not as I do' because I am a NIGHTMARE when TTC - zero chill!) Start by downloading one of the fertility tracker apps (I use Flo) and get some ovulation sticks (I buy the cheapies from Amazon) and just take it easy for a couple of months while you figure out what your cycles are doing. One of my friends has PCOS and is now expecting twins so think positive - it can happen! Sending lots of baby dust xxx

@SophieJ21 vitamin D - not B, sorry!

@Bringonbaby3 the apps aren't always accurate at predicting ovulation. When I conceived my daughter I used the ovulation strips and found I was ovulating almost a whole week later than the apps were predicting which is why I'd been missing it. First month using the strips and bam we got pregnant!

Me too! We'll start in January of February... this is my first post on here and its so nice to find some people in the same position :)

This would be our first pregnancy and first time TTC - we'll be married for 5 years next spring and we've been waiting for the right time in our careers and financially. I think DH would be content to wait longer but I have been hit by some serious baby fever this year and I can't wait for 2022 to come around!!

I've been off the pill nearly 7 weeks and no period yet, but I've started tracking my bbt and I think I'm due a visit from AF this weekend. It seems its taking me a while to kick 15 years of birth control... it's all a bit weird and like I'm having to get to know my body anew.

My mum always tells me she conceived me and my two siblings in the first month she tried every time, which she means to be reassuring (and would be amazing) but at the same time it feels like a lot of pressure for things to go smoothly! Equally, I think DH would keel over in shock if I got a BFP in Jan.

I'm taking preconception vitamins and cutting back on caffeine and alcohol, but otherwise just waiting... which is driving me bananas! Now we're finally going to start trying it's all I can think about. I know it won't help and it will be a looong few months (or longer) if I can't distract myself, but I can't shake it. Lovely to connect with other mamas-to-be x

Wow loads of new-comers, hi everyone Smile I'm using the Mumsnet app on my phone so finding it hard to keep track and reply individually Blush

I bought some Seven Seas conception vitamins and some OPKs today. Kind of regretting leaving it this late to come off the pill. What apps do people use to track cycles? I used to track my basal body temp/ovulation to prevent pregnancy which worked really well when I had a little break off the pill a few years ago.

How are your partners/husbands feeling about the journey ahead? I think my DP would rather me not talk about it too much and just pretend to be spontaneous Grin

Hi @lustforlife ! I've started using Natural Cycles to track my bbt and OPKs. I really like it so far, but I think it can get a mixed rep and I don't have anything to compare it to as I've not tracked before. My DH is just the same! He doesn't mind talking about it occassionally but when we do, he'll clam up if he starts to feel a bit overwhelmed. He is excited, but I think he wants to focus on enjoying the last bit of our normal time before TTC, which I totally get and want as well. But it's hard when there's no-one else to talk to about this massive new step, especially when I'm a forewarned-is-forearmed / research and planning kinda gal. I love to talk things over (maybe too much?!)!
