Spotting before AF

Hello everyone!

New to the forums but have been lurking fir a while. TTC number one with no luck for the past year. I normally get spotting before and around ovulation but never anything in the luteal phase ( I have fibroids though)

Today, I’m about 5dpo roughly (irregular cycles) and I’ve had some bright red bleeding, which I never ever ever get in the luteal phase. Always before ovulation!

Anyone know what this is? Xx

Hi @WicketBasket

I also get spotting before AF is due, just a couple of days prior and very light! Although I cant offer any advice on what you're experiencing, I didn't want to read and run!

Is it heavy? I know possible implantation could be around 5 days in rare cases or maybe you've ovulated earlier? I'm not sure but I hope you find some answers xx

Hi @WicketBasket
It could potentially be implantation bleeding. I experience this and hopefully have this at the moment (rather than AF).
Maybe worth waiting a few days and testing, if you're not already.

@Rachel93x @CakeAndPreggersThanks for replying! This is more than a week before my period is due and im never this early. I’ve heard about implantation but didn’t want to get my hopes up hahaha! It was a small gush (TMI sorry) this morning of bright red blood, thinner than a period. And then I had more pink spotting eventually becoming dark brown over the course of the day. Associated with light cramps and discomfort in my uterus :( Don’t know what’s going on!

I don’t ever get spotting during the luteal phase! Is it possible this is a good sign?? (I know we can’t know until testing but you know how crazy things feel in the tww Grin)

Oh and @CakeAndPreggers I really hope you’re having implantation bleeding too!! Lots of luck lovely xx

The way you describe it does sound pretty promising, in the fact it was the once and then turned brown🙊🤞🏻 I of course don't want to give false hope but I'd certainly take a test if you have no more when you're due/normally get a bleed! Fingers crossed for you!xx

Aww thanks @Rachel93x! I know what you mean, I don’t want to get my hopes up either so I’ll see how things go- I’m still having brown discharge ( TMI TMI sorrryyGrin) so will see what happens over the course of the next few days.
I’m weirdly not hopeful, been negative so many cycles, why is this one any different? But....it’s not over until AF arrives right? Wink

Whereabouts are you in your journey? Hope you get the news you’ve been waiting for very soon Flowers

Ive had something similar! I had (TMI) brown spotting for 3 days with mild cramping and lower back ache. I tried Googling it and everything says wait a week (or until your AF is due) to test. Mine stopped after the 3 days but I still feel crampy and bloated which makes me think it wasn’t AF. I’ve also really gone off the smell of things (garlic and onions 😂 which I normally love)

WicketBasket · 18/11/2020 21:17

Ooh @Sperr that sounds really encouraging for you! Aversion to foods and cramping that’s different makes me think you might have had some implantation bleeding! Smile
When are you due to test?
I feel like I always wait to test close to AF and then I start having bleeding/ cramps exactly as I’m about to test and sure enough come on pretty soon afterwards! Annoying!! Xx

I’m going to try and wait another week! I just don’t want to waste tests 😂. Hopefully by then I will know for sure I’m not going to come on! You? Xx

Great minds @Sperr! I’m also going to hold off (in theory) until late next week! I’m so sick of wasting tests Grin Let me know how you get on? Xx

I will do! I’ve got two tracking apps (from when I couldn’t decide which I preferred) so on one I said I’ve already started the next cycle just in case. I’m trying to follow SMEP so I don’t want to fall behind if I’m not 😂. I do think that was a pretty weird AF if it was as I had no bleeding at all- I was just when I wiped and never red.

My positive would be that it would mean I had a 28 day cycle which I normally have a longer one 😂.

I’m going to try and be really strong and wait until next weekend and then I will technically be late for my period as well!

WicketBasket · 19/11/2020 08:52

@Sperr I'm using the premom app, which ones are you using? I think I might order some OPK's for the next cycle as that'll probably help me track better!

It is weird that you've had an AF that is not your normal but I'm keeping my fingers crossed this means you're preggers :D

I have Premom and fertility friend- I got it because I was going to start doing temps but I can’t deal with not having a lay in on the weekend 😂. When are you due on? X

Report
WicketBasket · 19/11/2020 20:28

@Sperr I’m due on next week, round about Thursday so still quite a wait for me! I haven’t tried temping either, but will probably give it a go once my OPKs arrive!

Also, have been having a very sharp, intermittent stabbing pain in my right side, feels roughly where the ovary is. What’s this about? Almost feels like ovulation pain but surely it’s too late in the cycle to ovulate? Or do you think I’m ovulating? Had a bit of CM yesterday so possible I guess and I didn’t track this cycle so cant say for sure! Ugh why is this all so vague and crap?? Why can’t we just turn bright purple and have flowers growing out of our fingertips if we’ve conceived? So much more readable as a sign Grin

Hi,

I had a stabby pain low right side 9DPO, pink/brown spotting on 10dpo and very slight brown CM on 11dpo. I had AF cramps too and was sure I had started early but got my BFP yesterday! I was so sure I was not pregnant!
Fingers crossed for you Smile

WicketBasket · 19/11/2020 21:14

Oh @Caterpillar132 That’s absolutely brilliant news for you!! Massive congrats on your BFP!! FlowersGrin

I’m in a very similar situation, except I had a fair amount of bright red spotting ( TMI sorry) yesterday morning, which then petered out to dark brown over the course of the day (my app tells me this was 6DPO) and then today I’ve had brown tinged CM and then this stabbing pain started about two hours ago and it’s on and off! I think my dates are too early for this to be implantation? ( which is what I’m hoping this is but probably won’t be so have to mentally prepare myself, if that makes sense!)

How long did your pain last for can I ask? I’m also worried/convinced that this is just AF showing herself early, rude cow that she is Grin

@WicketBasket have you kept DTD? What cycle day are you? This is going to be the longest week ever! I’m trying to resist testing this weekend even though it would be 5 days since the spotting stopped. I just want to give myself as much of a chance as possible to get a BFP if there is hope 😂

I’m going to start DTD on the weekend again just in case 😂.

Can I ask how long you spotted for and if you had any other symptoms?

@WicketBasket
Ah thank you so much. I never spot, unless hours before AF. Looking back, this was a clear sign but I didn’t want to be to hopeful. And don’t be sorry it’s never TMI!

The cramps started really mild and got a little worse but not as bad as actual AF cramps. More the feelings you get on the build to it the day or hours before. The odd strong one but intermittent. Where as my period cramps are more constant and last a little longer. I am still cramping now here and there but I hear that’s normal. They’re getting further apart too. I was SO sure my AF was coming that I nearly didn’t take a test. Another strange sign for me (tmi warning) is that my cm dried up a couple of days before my AF was due. Everything online says you’ll have more CM If you have conceived but I guess it’s different for everyone!

How sure are you on your ovulation date? I hear implantation can be anywhere from 6-12DPO so if you’re a day out, could be? Smile I don’t want to give you loads of hope but could be a good sign.
Xxx

Hi @Sperr

Sure, I had stabby, electric paints on my low right in the evening at 9DPO. Perhaps 10 stabs! Enough to make me roll over and say ‘what’s that!?’ I spotted pink and brown in one go (quite a bit) just in one ‘toilet trip’ the next afternoon, maybe 20 hours later. Then I had brown spotting (very very light) I only knew it was there because I was looking for it, if I wasn’t ttc I wouldn’t have noticed. This went on for one more day and the my CM (tmi warning again) was just ‘off white’. So the teeniest bit of a brown tinge all the way up to my bfp (14dpo) It’s gone now.

Other symptoms for me, was my nipples went white on the end! Crazy, I cannot find anything about this on the internet Grin it happened from about 5DPO. Nothing else. Perhaps appetite loss.

Hope this helps in some way xxx

@Sperr Kinda have been DTD but did have a few days break and they say you should be aiming every other day right? So I haven’t been doing that (so exhausting, can’t keep it up Wink)
So my cycles are on the longer side, around 35 days and am currently cycle day 29 but 7dpo. Well, according to the app, haven’t temped or tracked so may not be!
Oh you’ve got nerves of steel girl! Excellent plan on trying to hold out for as long as possible, if only to save yourself some tests, although I do have my fingers crossed you’ll get your BFP soon!! Please keep me posted when you test? Xxx

@Caterpillar132 Aww massive congrats again! I’m so pleased you’ve had good news, it’s really difficult isn’t it, when you’re trying not to think too much about things, but secretly we are all hoping that it’s all pointing to a BFP Grin But genuinely chuffed for you!

I’m not too sure about my ovulation date- I tend to have 35 day cycles and the app tells me I’m 7dpo today but could be off, not completely sure! I had similar symptoms to yours expect I had the ‘bleed’ first and then mild cramps all yesterday and then this weird stabbing pain today. All I can conclude is that I have no idea what’s going on Grin and I’d be better off not getting my hopes up tbh!

Ooh interesting about your nipples (there’s something I didn’t think I’d say to a stranger on the Internet hahah). I’ve been examining mine Confused and no change at all!
Also, definitely don’t worry about the cramps- I have heard that they are very very common early on! It’s just baby settling in and getting comfortable Smile xxx

@WicketBasket Ah thank you so much. I really do have my fingers crossed for you. I know how hard it is to want it so bad but it’ll happen soon.

It does sound promising if those symptoms are unusual for you! Do let us know. It could be that your luteal phase is just a couple of days longer than usual. They say 14 days but we’re not robots Smile not long to wait! Distract yourself. It’s so hard in lockdown isn’t it!

Hahaha ref the nipples. Crazy hey!? I dismissed everything this month to me being obsessive and symptom spotting. Turns out this was the month they were actually there! Thank you for your reassurance, it is a little scary, hence me being on here in the first place. Thanks again and good luck! Xxxxx

@WicketBasket we DTD every other day until AF as I haven’t been able to get peak on OPK this month (I’ve just started a new job so not working from home anymore so don’t have the time to test all through the day. I have longer cycles too! My last one was 39 days! I’m currently cycle day 35 so really i want to wait at least 4 more days! I have been bloated and had lower back ache as though AF is coming.

If I’m not I’m just grateful to have had a 28 day cycle and hope it continues that way!
