Trying to get pregnant, considering IVF

Hi, I’ve been trying to get pregnant but it’s not happening, and considering IVF, but wondering if I’ve just left it all too late, at age 42, My husband is older. Knowing there might still be a chance is somehow torturous. I feel like we have left it too late but I feel like I might regret it if I just let time go on without trying everything possible while there might still be a slim chance. I don't know. I would appreciate hearing from others about this. Thank you.

Aunt got pregnant naturally at 41 so don't give up. Look for ivf clinics go along for open days and take it from there x

Hi OP,

I’m 40.5 and my husband is older too! I’m currently in the very early stages of pregnancy after our 2nd cycle of IVF.
I would say don’t delay in looking into IVF if it is something you are thinking about. At least you won’t look back and think what if. It’s a tough thing to go through I’m sure you know that. But similar to you we didn’t want to have any regrets in years to come and wish we’d at least given it a try.
Maybe have some fertility tests done for both of you if you haven’t already and go from there. At least then you will be in a much better position to know your chances and make a decision.

Go to a clinic asap as many have strict cut offs for people using their own gametes.

I've had ivf and both times we harvested around the same number of eggs but at age 38 I was left with 4 blasts and at age 41 with just 1 blast. The rest died off pretty quickly. So my advice would be to do it a.s.a.p. If you want to maximise your chances.

Definitely read 2nd Ed of It Starts 3ith the Egg. I followed the advice for 3 months and fell pregnant first cycle, age 41.

I would do it sooner rather than later if you are planning IVF and prepare to have deep pockets as you'll need to factor in multiple rounds (you won't be eligible for IVF on the NHS)
