cerazette & ovarian cysts

Hi all,

I’ve recently been through the ringer. Having had pelvic inflammatory disease (for no apparent reason!) this then lead to my doctor sending me for an internal scan which shows lots of little cysts on my ovaries.

The lady who did my scan told me she suspected them to be chocolate cyst which often are caused due to endometriosis. I am now awaiting an appointment with a Gynaecologist to investigate things further. Ever since the pelvic inflammatory disease my periods have been acting strange, they are lighter than normal and erratic lasting seven day, nine days and now three days. It’s all a bit odd as I have never had a period be so light before and last anything other than five days.

However I have been digging around and doing some research. I was on the mini pill Cerazette for about half a year, towards the last few months before I stopped it completely I wasn’t great at taking it as neither myself nor my partner were very committed to avoiding pregnancy.

When the pelvic inflammatory disease happened I stopped the pill instantly. Since then I have been digging into the Cerazette pill and although my GP told me it doesn’t cause cyst I vaguely remembered reading something about them doing so in the leaflet that came in their box.

Some good old google detective skills and I found said leaflet that confirmed I was right. It’s listed a an uncommon symptom but a symptom nonetheless.

I was wondering if any of you ladies whom have taken Cerazette have had cysts of any kind? As I’m almost convinced this is what caused mine. It’s the only thing keeping me sane whilst I await my gynaecologist appointment.

The thought of having endometriosis brings a different kind or fear & worry however I am finding peace in the fact that I don’t have any of the symptoms associated with it and I’m hoping that it’s not my case. My partner and I are now very much committed to welcoming a bubba into our lives & these cysts & a possible endometriosis diagnosis is causing all sorts of issue in our plans.

Hope your all well & staying safe with this virus being about.

xx

Hey,

I didn’t want to read and run. Please don’t stress to much about endometriosis and conceiving. In have stage 4 endometriosis and adenomyosis and have a beautiful child conceived naturally. You may have it mild that medication my help or you may require surgery but there are many options. Xx

@Nurselife2020 thank you. Ever since my GP has mentioned endometriosis I have been nothing but a ball of anxiety.

I joint some endometriosis groups on Facebook thinking it would help but reading those woman’s struggles, the pain they are in and how much so many of them struggle to conceive hasn’t helped much at all.

I’m so happy for you having been able to naturally conceive your little miracle. Thank you for your kind words x

@Maxabella2

I honestly wouldn’t have had a clue about the cysts either if it wasn’t for the pelvic inflammatory disease. Before then I felt completely fine and have no signs or symptoms of them either. It does say it’s a semi rare symptom as it happens to roughly 1 in 1000 woman who take Cerazette.

I’m just hoping to have answers soon, referrals within the NHS are seemingly taking much longer due to the virus and the wait is killing me. I’m such an over thinker so any extra time in this kind of case isn’t helpful or good for my anxiety lol. Thank you for commenting & I’m so glad you don’t have any cysts xx

Didn't want to read and run - I was on the pill for years; mini-pill eventually caused migraines with visual impairment; then they changed the brand to rigevidon and I had multiple ruptured cysts on my ovaries (small but painful). My GP (really unhelpful man) told me that it couldn't be the cause of the cysts - but when I came off that pill they completely stopped and haven't had a single ruptured cyst since. I don't know if that puts your mind at ease in any way x

It’s normal to feel anxiety around it all. Don’t get me wrong I am currently very poorly with my Endometriosis as it has spread everywhere but I was able to conceive with no problems. I was having regular periods and ovulation normally etc which worked in my favour. Hopefully they will advise you soon on your next steps. Good luck and take care xxx

@SITL1992

My GP is also very unhelpful. I had to be quite pushy and rude for her to send me for an internal scan after the Pelvic inflammatory disease, she wasn’t going to send me at all even though it’s know cause scaring & can impact fertility. If I hadn’t pushed I wouldn’t have known about the multiple small cysts on my ovaries.

When I mentioned the pill maybe causing them she was adamant it’s not the case but I have found the leaflet from the pill stating otherwise. I’m crossing my fingers this is the cause of my cysts and not endometriosis or something as sinister.

@Nurselife2020 oh bless your heart, I have read first hand accounts of how awful & painful endometriosis can be & how it’s often misdiagnosed. I hope your pain subsides soon. Xx

@Rainbowdreaming got everything crossed for you; a bit of time off that pill and switching to another sorted me out. I came off the pill last November-is and currently just under 12 weeks pregnant so I really hope it works out for you; I haven't had any problems since but I think the pill can really mess you up - hopefully a bit of time off it gives your body the chance to reset

@SITL1992 I’ve finally got my gynaecologist appointment in the post, for the beginning of October. I’ve definitely been ovulating (positive OPK’s and EWCM) which puts my mind at rest a little. I also think I have been feeling the Little cysts Pop/burst as I’ve had what I can only describe as electric shock like twinges in my ovaries area (least I think it’s where they are lol)

My partner & I are still taking a relaxed approach to ttc even with all this going on, I would love to go to the gynaecologist & be told I’m pregnant Grin a woman can dream!
