Bleeding after suspected chemical pregnancy/early miscarriage?

I was wondering what people have experienced in terms of bleeding in the aftermath of a suspected chemical pregnancy.

It's been over a week since my BFP, which turned negative the next day. I passed a few bits of bright red blood/CM a few days ago, and my GP says I've probably miscarried. Only thing is, all the other posts I've read on here say they bled heavily after a chemical pregnancy, so I'm now anxious as to when that might be.

When do you think I should expect a heavier bleed? Will it be my period, and how long in your experience has that taken to return?

@Littlebee1990 and @Rumples thank you, that is helpful! Sorry that you both had this happen to you.

Only thing is I am already over 2 weeks late for my period so I have no way of knowing when it will come, oh well...Confused

Hi @scrambledeggy

So sorry you are going through this. It doesn’t sound like a lot, but the BFN is the telltale sign. Perhaps an idea to do another Test do you can feel sure.

I had a loss at 5 weeks a couple of months ago. I had surprisingly little bleeding, a lot less than my period. It started light, then went very dark red, but still only came out when I wiped, do the flo was very slow. I had one noticeable clot that came out, and then it went very light again.

It was really very confusing. IT seemed to be in that ‘inbetween zone’...the doc said if it lasts 3 days it’s a probably a miscarriage, it lasted 2.5, and it was so much less then even my period. I felt like surely what came out was not enough to have been a pregnancy. I still have strong symptoms, surges of hormones in my breasts and armpits. My body was still feeling pregnant.

It just didn’t ring true snd wouldn’t sink in. How could the pregnancy just be gone?

I did another pregnancy test a few days later and I finally began to accept that, that is what had happened.

It is hard but not necessarily the way you might think. I Knew it wasn’t a viable pregnancy, and didn’t feel like I ‘lost’ a life. But I did desparately want to be pregnant again straight away.

It can take 4-6 weeks for your period to return, and you can ovulate. More likely to be soon if your loss was early. My period returned 28 days Later. And now in the second cycle After it’s back to regular.

If you do decide to try again this month, it is a little confusing and that is hard. You feel like you could ovulate at any time. I was doing pregnancy tests and ovulation tests at the same time. That confusion was difficult and I so wanted to be pregnant.

Also be aware if you do try, my hormones have been all over the place and gave me lots of false signals.

Last month I had cramping and backache 9 days dpo, incredibly tender breasts, cramping, stitches, nausea, dizziness. I was convinced I was pregnant again. I wasn’t. I’ve had similar this month, but much less intensity so things are returning to normal.

I hope this helps, Sending kind thoughts

@Bouncytree Could’ve wrote your post myself. Currently on CD29.. no idea if I’ve ovulated as my body is all over the place. Done OPKs and pregnancy tests as I’ve felt so poorly and had such painful nipples.

This cycle has been awful. I either want a BFP or AF to show because it’s so stressful. No idea what’s coming when.

Xx

@Littlebee1990 sorry you had to go through that, but nice to connect through the experience.I hope you get an answer soon.

I was the same, and even though I was expecting a BFP due to all the symptoms, it was actually a big relief to See AF for once. It felt like I had my cycle back and that felt really good. It was like a fresh start again.

Fingers crossed for your BFP. And if not, this month has been much better for me. The phantom symptoms are so much less and my dates regular again, ovulated on cue. I also feel more level headed about it all, I tortured myself So much with all the BFNs and this month I have managed to wait till the day of AF (tomorrow) to test. Must be a first!!

Hi, I’m so sorry your going through this, I had a chemical last month too, I had a few positive ic and a digital, i was 4 days late for my period when I started spotting, took a another pregnancy test which was noticeably lighter, the bleeding for me was about 4 days long and quite painful for the first day, heavy the second and then a lot lighter by the 3rd and 4th day, took another test and negative, It was very upsetting as we’ve ttc our second for over a yeah and a half, but we decided to carry on ttc, ovulated a week later then usual (confirmed by temping) and I’m 10dpo atm and anxious as anything xx I wish you all the best

Thank you all for sharing your experiences, it really helps me feel more normal. Especially @Bouncytree, yours sounds really similar to mine. It's even more hard not to feel in between when we're in the middle of all this COVID-19 uncertainty. @Wearewaiting "anxious" is definitely the word! And being worried makes you feel more sick and out of sorts so it's a vicious cycle. I hope everyone's cycles settle soon, or that you get the BFPs you want.

I have accepted by this point that it's not continuing, but to have so little bleeding feels really anticlimactic! Clearly everyone has different cycles and experiences. This was my first ever cycle TTC, so I feel a bit like I've already stumbled at the start line, but I'm just going to wait and see. I've also ordered some ovulation test strips so I can try and at least work out whether or not I'm ovulating.

Oh @scrambledeggy that’s so unfortunate that it is your first cycle TTC. First baby too? I’m sorry you’ve had such a bumpy start. It’s a blow so early in the process. But it is a very normal thing to happen and doesn’t mean anything is ‘wrong’.

There is a silver lining, in that it shows everything is work. Sperm and egg have met, you are ovulating and your partners sperm has good motility. That means It’s only a matter of time! Though the waiting of course is what makes it so hard!!

Glad hearing the experiences has helped. Be kind to yourself in the next few weeks.

@Bouncytree You have such a kind and articulate way of phrasing things, thank you so much!

Update: still no AF, but I have been doing OPKs the past few days that have been slowly rising. Today I got a result that was THE strongest positive I've ever had, it showed up almost immediately and was much darker than the control line. Lots of CM too. Could I be ovulating this early?

@scrambledeggy Ah thanks, I’m glad it helps a little.

If you have got a darker line on the OPK then you are just about to ovulate, yes! Get doing the deed as soon as you can 👍🏻🤣 The sooner the better. Your best chance is if the spermicide is waiting for the egg when it is released 24/36 hours after the peak. I have read reports of women ovulating quickly after CP. For me it was 14 days After the bleeding started. What are your dates?

In any case the tests are highly accurate, and it is physically possible. Your body wants to get going again!

@Bouncytree

It will be between 10 and 12 days since I started to lose the pregnancy. Unfortunately I haven't been temping for the past few weeks because I thought there was no need, and my previous ones are dodgy because I wasn't letting the temperature on the thermometer stabilise properly Confused. D'oh!

We DTD yesterday and are going away for the weekend, so fingers crossed this is actually perfect timing! Grin

@scrambledeggy enjoy the weekend then 😆

Yesterday is good, but I would do the deed tonight for sure, that is the best timing. It takes the sperm 12 hours to swim up the Fallopian tubes to meet the egg. Doing it when you ovulate is too late.

I DTD on the Monday, then peaked on the Tuesday and thought oh no I have to do it Again 🤦‍♀️. But we did..,.And now I just got my BFP

Bon chance!

Thanks @scrambledeggy, a little nervous due to our early loss, but Also excited. It’s Our number 2.

I meant to say yes 10/12 ovulation makes sense. You count the first day of bleeding as the first day of your cycle. Day 14 is the average ovulation if u have a 28 day cycle. Great you Know u ovulated as it can be very confusing otherwise and now you know your cycle is getting back on track.

@Bouncytree was going to say something about a BFP being a sign of everything working, but I'd be stealing that line from someone! Wink How old's your DC?

Even if for some reason this extremely positive OPK doesn't mean I'm ovulating, just seeing it has put me in such a good mood, so I'm very happy to carry it into the weekend and see what happens Grin
