Not Ovulating After Stopping the Pill

Has this happened to anyone else?

This is my third cycle off the pill and I'm fairly sure I'm not ovulating. I've charged this cycle and the previous one. Last one lasted 37 days during which I got three LH surges and finally a positive on CD33, but then AF arrived three days later.

Every cycle I've had EWCM. I had it on CD 23-24 and then again 29-32 this cycle. My cervix was high and I thought for sure I would ovulate this time but my EWCM dried up a few days ago and I've had no temp spike.

This cycle and last cycle around the time I've been getting EWCM afterwards I feel rubbish - completely exhausted. Think maybe my body is trying for a long time over the month and just just gives up. I haven't had a single positive OPK this cycle either, just mid-dark lines every day for about 2 weeks.

Just wondering if this happened to anyone else and how long it took to start ovulating? I'm trying to hard to catch the egg but obviously it's not coming and it's really starting to get me down, plus haywire hormones seem to be making me feel awful too x

Hi @MintGreenLife

Not me personally, but one of my close friends was very similar, her cycles were all over the place anything from 25-60+ days! She did call her GP who basically said give it atleast 6 months, so I’m assuming its fairly normal!

I came off the pill for 6 months 2 years ago and i slipped straight back into a regular cycle, I have come off again about 5 weeks ago and somedays im a genuinely exhausted to the point where I struggle to make it through the afternoon then other days I’m full of energy, I’m guessing it’s just my body getting used to the hormone change!

Depending on what pill you take, some of them stop you from ovulating so in that case I guess your ovaries have to wake back up!

@Sarahp2308 thanks for taking the time to reply ☺️ The pill I was on did stop ovulation. It's kind of scary when I think about it as I had been on it from 17, so 14 years, and that means I only had four years of natural cycles/periods and then 14 years of suppressing hormones and ovulation! Kind of makes sense that it can take your body a while to figure things out. I just hoped I would be one of those women that got right back on track - our wedding had to be postponed because of Covid, so we decided to focus on TTC instead, but was kind of hoping we would only take 4 months tops otherwise it makes things tricky with the new date of the wedding. Makes me feel better to know that it's not just me though. Have you stopped the pill to TTC? X

It took me a year to start ovulating after coming off the pill. I didn't get any periods so went to the dr who eventually did bloods and confirmed. They just said it might take a while to come out of my system which was really helpful.

@MintGreenLife The pill I was on (cerazette) stops ovulation, when I took a 6 month break 2 years ago we were casually trying to TTC then life got in the way so we put it on hold for a while, but obviously in those 6 months we weren’t using any barriers and obviously I didn’t fall pregnant so I think upto a year is fairly normal!

We are TTC again only about 6 weeks off the pill so far so just going with the flow at the mo! I have also been on some form of hormonal contraception for about 15 years...after coming off it and looking it up I almost feel guilty for doing it to my body!

@plixy it's good to know you got there in the end and that the doc wasn't worried. I've had two periods since I came off in 3 months (currently CD33) so hopefully that's a good sign, although I think you can get AF without ovulating x

@Sarahp2308 I've felt the exact same! Don't think I would go on it again to be honest, I even told OH earlier we would have to use condoms in the future when we aren't TTC. How did you find the first break when you came off? I guess so far my cycles have been semi-regular - 30 and 37 days, but I'm either not ovulating or I'm ovulating extremely late into my cycle and only having a very short luteal phase and hardly an temp increase. So far I've had some days of exhaustion, mild acne and I also had a single hair growing out the centre of my forehead!! If that's not a sign of haywire hormones I don't know what is 😂

@MintGreenLife I said exactly the same to my OH and if he doesn’t like condoms he can have the snip 😂

I remember being fairly regular every 28-30 days, my last period was pretty horrific though and looking back it was possibly a chemical pregnancy! I’ve only had two bleeds so far this time the first was pathetic just like a little bit of brown/pink discharge (TMI) about 2 weeks after I stopped then again on 10/07 which felt like a proper period, due on again 07/08 that’s assuming I have a 28 day cycle.

Oh yes my skin is terrible at the moment, I also have the hair situation except mine is on my chin 😂 OH said I’m getting a better beard then him 😂

@Sarahp2308 😂 It's not worth all the craziness that we experience after to go back on it again!

Oh god I'm so glad it's not just me with the random facial hair! It was just one hair but it was dark and right in the middle of my forehead 😂 I had to tweeze it twice and it's not come back thank god, that was over a month ago now. My two periods off the pill have been really light, but have lasted 4 days each time. I swear I'm actually excited to get a proper AF as feel like when that happens I'll be back on track. I feel like I'll come on soon, as last cycle was 37 days. Feel like a new cycle is a new start and a new chance that it will be better! X

@Sarahp2308 it's like learning about your body all over again! I actually feel proud when I see my body doing some of the things its meant to 😂 But then frustrated when it's not doing what it's supposed to to. Mine was the exact same! I swear one day it wasn't there and the next it was about an inch long...so horrible! X

@MintGreenLife I know! It’s crazy, it’s the not knowing what is going on that drives me crazy! Yep exactly the same, I keep plucking it but it keeps coming back, I hope its not a long term addition to my face 🤣
