Coming off the pill...

So after lots of waiting me and dp have finally decided I'll come off the pill this week, give it a couple of months to have a couple of periods and then start ttc!
I'm so excited and nervous in equal measure. We are going to start taking vitamins a month before and eating healthy etc. Not really sure of the point to this post lol. Just wanted to voice it and see if anyone else is in the same situation as us 😊

I'm on my penultimate pill packet. We want to start trying in the new year (maybe December if we can't visit relatives this year) and I'm going to also give it a few months for my cycle to settle down and to start tracking ovulation. It's an exciting time isn't it? I'm not there yet but it feels like an important step to becoming ready to ttc

Oh it's so exciting! We have a potential holiday to Mexico booked for mid september so I'm thinking to start trying properly first week of September. What apps are you all using to track etc? X

I’m using Ovia, it has functions to track temp, cm, etc. It can also tell you when you’re most fertile once you’ve filled in details about your cycle. But yes it’s definitely exciting😆

I’m also using Ovia, I used that the last time when i conceived my daughter and it was brill, then used it to track my pregnancy. So exciting xx

I have been using Pink Bird to track, it was great. I am now 4 weeks 6 days pregnant and came off the pill mid March 😁 good luck!

You need to be very careful as Mexico has the Zika virus. This can effect both partners and can last in the system for 3 months after your return causing birth defects etc. We have a trip planned to Jamaica for November and after speaking to the doctor have decided the risks are too great and will not TTC until March. Talk to your doctor/airline as tui will not let you travel to zika countries if pregnant.

Hi all. I came off the pill at the end of March, withdrawal bleed 2 weeks later, period 2 weeks after that. Next period was 28 days after first period and now we are pregnant. I genuinely thought it would take longer than 2 cycles! So just to let you know it doesn't always take too long to get back into sync with your cycle or to conceive after coming off the pill. I was on desogestrel which is a pill every day and no period. I'd been on some form of pill for 13 years. Good luck! Xxx

Hi girls, got my fingers crossed for all of you. I came off the pill (Lucette) on 16th April and now I’m 6 weeks pregnant! I’ve been on the pill since I was 18 and I’m now 37, so that’s a good 19 years. (Jeez, that makes me feel old!) They do say that you’re most fertile as soon as you stop taking it.
I had the withdrawal bleed, then a 30 day cycle, before a 2 day period, which I thought was strange. Apparently not as I got my BFP on 12th June. My tips are try to relax and have sex every other day from cycle day 8. That way you’re sure to catch the most important fertile days. And afterwards I stayed laying down with a cushion under my bum for at least half an hour. Have fun and good luck!

@Rachy11 @WhoWhatWheree thank you!

As soon as I came off the pill I went onto seven seas trying for a baby and husband started taking wellman conception tablets. I tracked my cycle and fertility window using Flo which I found useful. After my second period we DTD every other day. I did have a small bleed which others thought was an implantation bleed but then 2 days before period was due I had 2 negative tests (they were the strip ones, I wouldn't use those again personally) so I went grumpy thinking I'd hadn't had an implantation bleed as not pregnant! So I bought OPKS and pressed ready for the next cycle. 3 days later (1 day late for period) I did a cheap test and then 4 hours later a clear blue to confirm the positive cheapie! Shop around for your vitamins, Tesco haven been doing 3 for 2 which was cheaper then buying off amazon. Enjoy the trying process too! It is hard not to make it a bit of a means to a baby but you should enjoy it at the same time. Keeping fingers crossed for when you're all ready to TTC! Xxx

Thank you! @whowhatwheree (I hope that's tagged you, I'm very new here 🙈)

I basically had as much sex as physically possible 😂 and enjoyed every second of it! I never wanted it to become regimented so although I made sure we DTD around my ovulation, we made sure to do it either side too 😁😂
I have been taking folic acid and need to get onto some multivitamins asap.

Enjoy it, have fun, and don't put too much pressure on yourselves ❤️

😂😂 @LMwBambino that’s the approach I’m currently taking, DTD as much as possible. I haven’t yet tried any of the OPK tests (think that’s what they’re called?) Trying to just track any CM and hoping for AF to arrive.

I caved this morning, had sore boobs, stomach ache etc. So took a test- obviously it came back negative though😅

LMwBambino · 30/06/2020 13:48

Yay!! Enjoy it!! I've never heard of OPK tests 😬 I really didn't do much prep from what I'm reading on here 🙈

I also took tests early! I had 3 negative tests and always took them a couple days before my period was due so I'd know whether to expect it or not! I didn't want to be a day late and get all excited to then get a negative result anyway.

This time around I lost track a bit because of other things going on, and before I realised I was a week late and sure enough I'm pregnant ❤️

Hi all, can I join?
I came off microgynon at the end of May and had my usual 5 day withdrawal bleed. Started testing with opk's and got a peak according to my app on CD21 expecting AF today but it actually ending up coming last Thursday for only 2 days with unusually no cramps but a splitting headache instead! Now onto cycle 2 hoping to relax more as I drive myself crazy last month!

My goodness I had no idea that this was still a thing! Thank you so much for telling me, I'll have a chat with my doctor and see what she says. The holiday might not even go ahead if there isn't an air bridge by then. I should know about 3 weeks before so I'll keep to my plan of coming off the pill and using condoms. Just might have to use them a little bit longer than originally planned! Typical that a holiday of a lifetime for us falls in such bad timing! Lol x

Aw hopefully it won’t take too long. I can remember the shock of getting my bfp with my little girl I couldn’t believe we were having a baby even though we’d been trying 😂. It’s nice to have people going through same thing to chat to xxx

@Baker0104 I was exactly the same but was so grateful they told me. I would never have forgiven myself. Better safe than sorry. I decided to come off the pill and have the copper coil fitted incase ours goes ahead hoping to regulate myself and get rid of the hormones. I wasn’t sure I could trust myself as bad as that sounds. I will take it out as soon as is safe and fingers crossed

Were you told recently that it's 3 months you have to wait till you ttc? I saw that on the NHS website but then when i looked at other threads on here they said 6 months! I didn't know if the advice had changed recently? I really don't know if I want to wait that long to ttc 😔

@Baker0104They told me a few weeks ago that I would need to wait 3 months from when I returned. 100% not 6 months! I would have cried lol. They did make quite a big deal out of it though and were saying that we can be bitten and not know and get the virus and how it was transferrable from DP too
