Hi all, went for an early scan today should have been 8+3 and unfortunately I’ve had another missed miscarriage at 7+3. I had a missed miscarriage in February at exactly the same date. I’ve also had a chemical pregnancy in April. I’m hoping I get referred for tests now. Does anyone have any advice? I’m going to ring me EPU tomorrow to see what the process is now. Has anyone had a D&C how was it? I passed the pregnancy naturally last time and found it really traumatic. Has anyone else had 3 miscarriages and then had tests? What were you tested for? Did you go on to have any successful pregnancies? Thank you in advance xx

@sophj19 I am so sorry for your loss, a MMC really is so hard. I had a MMC at the end of March and an MVA (local anaesthetic) at the start of May (covid delays) and it was honestly fine - the nerves and anticipation beforehand were the worst bit for me. It’s a bit uncomfortable at times but the nurse kept me chatting and I had gas and air. It was over before I even knew it and I was on my way home an hour later. I was so worried about it (an ERPC with general would have been my first choice but covid meant they weren’t doing them) but I would now absolutely choose it again if there were to be a next time.
Afraid I can’t help with anything else but give me a shout if you have any questions and good luck with everything - sending lots of strength xx

I'm sorry this has happened to you. I've just had my 3rd miscarriage and am now under the care of Tommy's recurrent miscarriage clinic. 1st was a chemical, 2nd got to 6 weeks and most recent it happened two days before my 12 week scan; unfortunately after two weeks of bleeding I had to go to A&E in the middle of the night with retained product. I had the medical management which worked and I had to collect the products and they have sent them for testing.

I'm in the same boat as you at the moment so no advice as such except to say that the people I have met in the unit so far have been incredibly kind and supportive and have been instrumental in my recovery. I will be going in for bloods in the next few weeks and we should get the results back from genetic testing of the pregnancy in 5-9 weeks (was sent off last Sunday).

Thank you all for your replies and sorry for your losses. It’s such a shit situation.
@showmethegin did you have a to ring your gp for a referral or did the EPU refer you?
@SkyBlue20 did you have any bleeding afterwards? I’m hoping they can fit me in soon as I just want it over with

Both kind of! I called the GP when I realised I was miscarrying and they said they would refer me and then when I was at EPU they said they would check they had record of the referral and if not would refer me again.

I had initial bloods taken at the GP to be sent to the recurrent miscarriage clinic however I will have to have them retaken as at the time we were not aware that I had retained product and therefore by their standards was still pregnant which can skew the results apparently.

I’m sorry for your loss Flowers

I’ve had 3 miscarriages (5, 11 and 12 weeks) the epu didn’t do any tests but they did so early scans at 6 and 8 weeks to check up on my pregnancies.

I’ve also managed to have 3 healthy babies. It seemed to be a lottery tbh I never found out what caused the issues

No, I don’t recall having any bleeding and if I did, it wasn’t much at all. I think I was quite lucky - I had some cramps immediately afterwards for a couple of minutes but that was it really. I also had medical before the MVA (which I was forced in to - again, covid) and found it far worse even though it failed (I don’t think I agree with codeine so ended up with cold sweats and vomiting alongside the cramps) xx

Hi @sophj19

Sorry for your loss. How are you feeling? It's such a shock.

I discovered a MMC last Sunday (Father's Day 😢) at a private clinic. I was meant to be 8+1 but baby was measuring 7+4 and no heartbeat was found.

I went to the EPU on the Monday, the EPI was still pretty strict about no partners so was on my own for the whole time and may have just been a bad day but they were pretty rotten to me the whole time.
The consultant I saw later was very nice and gave me 3 options
To let is pass naturally
Medical management
Surgical -local or GA

I couldn't handle the uncertainty of eating for natural passing. And the next surgery date was Thursday. I felt I couldn't wait so opted for medical management. Which didn't work. Which was tough emotionally as I'd prepared myself mentally for what would happen.
The surgery was actually pretty easy. Was carried out in the day theatre so I was kept in a private room away from everyone And had my iPad loaded with tv so just zoned out for the day. The procedure was over within about an 40 minutes from being given the anaesthetic to coming round again. I've had minimal bleeding so far. I'm 3 days post op. And very little pain. I was very emotional for the first 24 hours (Had a very irrational argument with DH) but otherwise feel ok. Very sad and feel quite lonely but also feel like I'm ready to move on.

If you have any questions re MMC more than happy to answer questions

Hi ladies, just an update my appointment with the EPU is tomorrow and they’ll scan me aswell. Then I’ve got to wait a week and have another scan before I can receive any treatment. I’m dreading the waiting. I don’t understand why we need to as we know there is no heartbeat and waiting a week won’t make a difference. I’ve had no bleeding at all but the sickness has gone. My boobs are still like rocks too. Think I’ll need treatment this time. I’m dreading going in my own too.
I’m so very sorry for your losses, it’s just heartbreaking xx

Sending a big hand hold, @Sophj19 - I had to wait three weeks in total between finding out and them actioning any treatment (and even then I had to push for it) and the waiting was awful. However, it'll be over before you know it and then you can have the treatment, grieve and start to move forward. Us women are much stronger than we realise, I was almost in tears going in to the hospital for my MVA on my own, but I was fine when I was in there and fine afterwards, too - we have a secret reserve of strength we can draw on in awful situations and you'll feel even stronger afterwards. You CAN do it and you WILL be ok. Sending lots of love xx
