False positive pregnancy test?

Hi all,

Any advice/thoughts welcome.

I’m 4 days pre AF, I think I ovulated early but could be anywhere between 9-13dpo. I took an FRER Saturday evening which had a very faint positive line in the time frame and is still there. I have done a clear blue this morning which looks negative.

I have had some symptoms, I had light AF type cramping Friday/Saturday, sore boobs and a lack of my usual pre af mood swings which is why I tested, but I might been reading to much into those.

Do the FRER tests give false positives? Could it be that the hgc hasn’t risen enough to be picked up on the clear blue even thought it’s an ultra early? Any other ideas?

Unlikely to be a false positive. Could be an evap line or a possible chemical pregnancy/failed implantation. It's difficult to compare clearblue and first response as they have very different hcg sensitivity levels

FRERs are very sensitive. It could be the other test you used isn't sensitive enough for the amount of HCG in your urine. The only thing to do is wait a couple of days and try again with another FRER and see if your line has got darker.

Depending on the clearblue they can require up to 25 miu HCG before showing a BFP, vs I think only 6 for FRERs - so the discrepancy in sensitivity is quite large that early pre AF.

Like the poster above said, it's unlikely to be a false positive - but if the line is predominantly grey it could be an evap or indent so make sure it's pink. Likewise, this early on it could be that it never progresses beyond the first faint line and results in a chemical. All you can do is wait a few days and test again.

Frer tests have a sensitivity of 6mIu as opposed to Clearblue which are 10mIu, so you probably have hcg levels in between. Wait a day or two and test again, but tentative congratulations

FRER are more sensitive, do you have a photo of both tests?

Thanks for the replies

I thought maybe evap but I keep reading that usually happens after the normal read time? It looks pink, I’ve taken a photo but it’s much harder to see in that.

Would I get any symptoms if it were a chemical pregnancy, like bleeding or would I just not know?

Yeah I think the clear blue one I used are 10miu, I just thought the level would have risen enough since Saturday night to get even a faint positive on this one?

I’ve ordered another FRER and will try again over the next few days I guess.

False positive pregnancy test?

I can definitely see the line in that FRER. When I had a chemical I just came on, had no other symptoms, it was just like my period starting late.

@Literaryseed oh ok thank you, I guess I’ll wait a few days, either for my period to start or test again

I'm in a similar position. AF due friday. I think it was Sunday I had 2 positives on one step cheapie tests, one was clear the other faint. But I took two tests yesterday from co-op called acutest and both negative not even a faint line.
I felt really suck yesterday but that has gone today and replaced with really obvious AF cramps. Not sure what to think but hoping for both of us it was the sensitivity and concentration that worked and we need a few more days.
When are you going to test again? I'm too down about it at the mo I think.

Sick not suck yesterday but it does suck lol

That’s good line on the FRER it’s not an evap.

@Lala2018 yes I’ve just started getting more normal AF type cramps which is quiet early for me.

Yes hopefully it’s just down to the sensitivity and it’ll work out for both of us.

I know how you feel about testing, I might just wait till Friday and see if AF shows I don’t think I can cope with more testing at the moment and if it’s negative I’ll still only be unsure. What about you?

I think I will wait until Friday too just because it's so disappointing.
It's going to be a long week!

That's exactly what my first FRER tests looked like with both of my pregnancies and (by coincidence) I would have been three weeks and six days pregnant both times (going from date of LMP I've no clue what DPO it was).

I have a four year old and an almost two year old bouncing around my sitting room as I type.

Get a couple more FRERS and do another one tomorrow. Chances are the line will get darker.

@ToothFairyNemesis - thanks I’m glad you don’t think it is, I was starting to think maybe it was my eyes

@princesshollysmagicalwand - well that’s a positive story so hopefully. I will see if I have the courage to test again tomorrow.

That's definitely a positive 😀

Clear blues aren't very sensitive at all so usually don't work very well until your period is already quite late so wouldn't take that to mean anything.

Take another one of the same type next time as that's the only way you can compare (hopefully the line would be darker over time)

I've had 2 chemical pregnancies in the past and both times I got faint positives then began bleeding a few days later and then the test was negative.

Good luck 🙂🙂🙂

@TJ17 - Thanks 🙂. Yeah I’m hoping it’s just test sensitivity and hcg concentration that’s given me negative.

Can I just ask your chemical pregnancies did you begin bleeding before your period was due or were you already late? I’m starting to get more normal period cramps and just wonder if I start bleeding today maybe that’s what it will be rather than period being very early as I’ve never been that early.

I began bleeding after my period was late but only a few days after so if I hadn't of tested on day of missed period or early I'd never have noticed I was pregnant. It's only because I got the positive that I knew x

Can I ask how it turned out for
You?
