Conception

Should we be having sex?!

I'm so confused and hoping someone can help. We've been doing the SMEP and had sex yesterday on day 10. Planning to do it tomorrow but did notice some EWCM today so not sure if we should be doing it tonight??

I've been taking OPKs (Clear Blue Pink one) but they're not positive yet.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

How long have you been trying? There may not be much science about it, but just having sex if you feel like it tends to work fine for a huge amount of the population. The way you're doing it seems pretty stressful tbh. Having sex on a schedule is always miserable imo.

I completely agree. But we've been trying for at least 8 months based on when we feel like it as I always feel like I know I'm ovulating and nothing happens.

Tbh that's still not very long, i think average is 18m?

But also saying you "feel like you're ovulating" is a bit daft, you're highly unlikely to feel anything at all. If you want to be clinical about it, take ovulation tests and jump your OH when you get a positive.

I know I'm just inpatient :( I think I'll do that!

Without sounding annoying, I ish know when I ovulate day11/12 (I get pains in my side) so have just had sex before/around then and got pregnant first time three times. no stressful timing etc, just having sex around the right time. If you ovulate in a few days have sex. You can’t get pregnant without having sex. Are you sure you ovulate when you think you do?

Thanks 😊 I get the same pains. I oddly have two timings depending on which side is ovulation. One is always 25 day cycle. But the other one varies - 28-30 days. I'm currently on that cycle as last month it was 25 days.

I always have very obvious pains for a few hours mid cycle. I've tried not to be neurotic about things but I just got so fed up. This is the first month of trying the CB OPKs as I just couldn't get a positive on the cheapies. I have tested my BBT in April I think and I definitely ovulate.

I think prior to this we weren't having sex enough. So we possibly need to just try to do it more often. So hard after a work day 😫

@SomeoneElseEntirelyNow bit rude saying it’s a bit daft feeling yourself Ovulate. I feel myself ovulate every month and I’ve been pregnant every time I’ve had sex on that day. Unfortunately I have had early miscarriages but of course some woman can feel it.

I definitely feel it, I only realised it was that when I decided to have children. It’s a very noticeable aching type pain that I feel on off for a day or two, it’s always on the same side (the right) for me though strangely.

@dontstandsoclose I’m the same. I had no idea what that pain was until I started ttc last year. I get like an aching stitch Like pain on my side and a few cramps. It rotates each side each month depending on what side I ovulate on

It’s still quite early so don’t worry.
Have sex ! Enjoy

You can definitely feel yourself ovulate! Mine is also always on the right side. I needed to have a transvaginal scan a few months ago and it was 2 days before my predicted ovulation date. The scan showed that the egg was there ready to drop and that I was going to ovulate within the next couple of days... I didn't even tell the sonographer that I was due to ovulate, she was the one who brought it up in conversation as the scan was to check that my ovaries and uterus were fine, so in my experience my pains are always correct.

Very rude and insulting to ever call someone daft, especially when they’re just here looking for advice!

I started using OPKs and was getting worried it had been about 8 days and no positive but on the 9th day I woke up and just knew I was ovulating that day, my boobs get really sore and itchy, it’s a weird feeling! I also get slight cramp twinges so yes, some people can actually feel ovulation happening. I knew straight away this month I ovulated earlier than what my app had calculated because I woke up and had the same feeling!

I am feeling a lot of relief thanks to these messages.

I also wake up with that same feeling today and wouldn't you know my OpK had a smiley face. I've always tried to listen to my body but it was nice to see it finally!

@SomeoneElseEntirelyNow definitely not necessary to call OP daft. Particularly on something that alot of women can comment on experience. I also get ovulation pain, it is also something that is recognised and you can read up about.

Anyway @ProjectBaby87 I'm glad you got your smiley. Enjoy DTD, wishing you lots of luck for this month xx

There's no need to be rude or abrupt on any thread about conception in my opinion - TTC is hard enough without being shot down for asking questions or giving your opinions (politely and gently) and we should all try to be as kind as we can with one another ✨

I've only recently noticed pains early/mid cycle (after coming off the pill) which upon googling could indeed be ovulation pain - it's called mittelschmerz and is a known ovulation symptom so yes, you can infact feel when you ovulate 👍🏻

Sending lots of luck and babydust to you OP ✨💕
