Ovulation pain!!! So bad

I experience the worse ovulation pain ever. I can hardly walk when it's happening. I literally just had to take two paracetamol.

I've always had pain when am ovulating, but the last month and this ( current as I type) it's been so bad.
When I do try to walk I have to do so gingerly.

Am I the only going through this?

You sre not alone. My ovulation pain is horrendous. I fins it uncomfortable to sit, walk or lay. I ovulated last weekend and it woke me in the night was so intense and had to take some paracetamol. The only way i can get comfy is to sort of squat or sit on the loo.

I feel the ovulation pains each month but some months they are so painful. I’ve had times I have just lay on the floor tiles for cold relief for hours (mad I know). This month it was one of the worst I’ve had, the pain literally took my breath away and I was on all fours on the sofa panting through the pain as I couldn’t move 🙁

@motherofdinosau thanks for replying. I am glad to know that I am not the only one.
Sitting and laying down is really is uncomfortable.
Is it the same for you every month?

I have this - much worse on the right that the left. Right is unbearably bad - sweats, nausea, I feel like I want to throw up and the day after I have an upset stomach and bloating.

I had fertility treatment years ago (DC are 8 and 10 now) and was told during scanning and treatment that the pain is fluid being released into the abdominal cavity. I didn’t realise that the ovaries and Fallopian tubes aren’t actually joined together in one piece there is a gap!!

I have horrendous pain when I ovulate too - I have endometriosis, and pain during ovulation is one of the symptoms. It may be something worth investigating.

@Happyhappy37 I try to keep thinking it’s my body doing its thing and I usually only have a day with intense pain. Over the years I’ve had to go on and off contraception just to give me a break from ovulation pain. Being a woman is hard work lol!

I have the most awful pain too every month. It lasts for 3 days. I feel sick, doubled over in pain and can't sleep. had a scan last year at hospital and they found nothing. I've just accepted this is how it's going to be every month

@Bumblebei honestly us woman deserve to worshipped, with the amount of things our bodies go through. We are superwoman Grin
@Jasquers wow you get three days of pain that's tough. I usually just have one day instense pain and then it very mild for few more days.

I feel like I have only 7 days a month where I have no pain! Ovulation pain is quickly followed by horrendously painful breasts and intermittent womb ache, then the actual period pain, before the calm before the storm starts up again. It got worse after my second child. My age(41) probably doesn't help either.

@Jasquers oh my word that's not nice at all. I used to hear that when we start having children period pain reduces alot.
Does your age contribute to the pain?
I thought as we age periods, ovulation pain reduces.
Am 37 going on 38 in December

Another here who suffers with O pain. It’s horrendous some months. It feels as though something is going to burst down there.

I had ovulation pain so bad every month for years that I could only curl up on my side, take painkillers and wait for it to pass, prior to getting pregnant. I knew exactly which ovary DD came from, confirmed by the early scan I had. I had a pattern of left two months in a row then right. DD was a righty Grin
She's 8 now and I'm on the non stop pill, which has stopped my periods, but every now and then I get severe pain on one side and can't get up until something pops (absolutely awful bloody pain) and after a while I can move again.
Mittelschmerz runs in my family. Nana, Mum, then me. Hope DD doesn't follow the pattern.

Just to add, I've never had bad period pains. It's only ovulation that hurt like hell. Probably due to the blood or fluid pushed out at the same time. I'm quite thin so can physically feel the inflamed side.

@indemMUND jheez that sounds awful. Years you say. I've never really had it bad until 4 years ago. I believe the worse I've had is the last couple of months. Others were bad but, I didn't have to take pain killers.
I mostly ovulate from my right ovary.
I've never had painful period.

I also get bad pain and bloating when I ovulate on the right! I've had it on and off for about 6 years. When it got really bad and stuck around it turned out I had a blood filled cyst which went down without any treatment. Now it's just ovulation again. Last couple of months, I've also had a bit of brown blood appearing so will have to ring GP if that continues I guess.

I used to get the occasional ovulation bleed as well as the pain. IIRC it’s nothing to worry about. Pain was so bad I often had to take painkillers.

Report
Hairydogmummy · 21/05/2020 10:08

@howells did you? That's reassuring. It's only a tiny bit and not fresh blood but still was a bit concerned. I do sometimes have to take painkillers and it can last for days. Loads of egg white discharge too. Only started happening to me in mid 30s. Along with the terrible PMS and a host of other hormone related issues...

Yes, it was usually just a small amount, brownish/pinkish. Not bright red. I read that it was from the egg bursting out of the ovary or something.

I took my teenaged daughter to A and E yesterday because she was crying with abdominal pain, felt hot and cold, as if she was about to pass out . Long story short- the doctor thought it was most likely ovulation pain. I felt like a total fool and guilty for wasting their time because I used to suffer from it terribly every month. But as I am past the menopause I 'd forgotten and it never even crossed my mind! I asked her 'does it feel like someone is stabbing you, twisting your insides and sticking a poker up your bum?' and she said 'yes.. thanks mum..'

I had terrible ovulation pain during the times I wasn't on the pill and TTC. really didn't fancy PIV sex when it needed to be done, so very inconvenient! I also found it harder to pee during those couple of days around ovulation, and had to bear down to empty my bladder...no idea why! What did help me was masturbation - swift, solo and perfunctory...sometimes 2 or 3 times until i felt the "congestion" feeling has eased Blush.
