Is the test line on ovulation sticks supposed to get darker the nearer you get to ovulation? I came off pill last month so am trying to track ovulation and know it might not happen quickly but my test lines all seem to be different each day. Yesterday was darker than today's (but nowhere near a positive).

Yes the line gets darker as the luteal hormone builds towards ovulation. A positive test the line will be as dark as the control line or there abouts. Your LH surge will be about 36-48 hours before you ovulate, and this is the time period you really want to be having sex - you want the sperm there waiting for the egg rather than trying to have sex exactly when you’re ovulating

But then why were my tests yesterday (been taking two a day) so much darker than today's??

@incywincyspiders where are you in your cycle?

Well I'm not really sure as I'm going on my withdrawal bleed after the pill.. so from that I'm day 12. Obviously I know I may not ovulate at all for a while but I'm just confused as to why the line was darker yesterday.

It’s best not to do OPKs in the morning. Afternoon and evening are best, 3 over the course of the afternoon/evening would be ideal. The surge can come and then go really quickly, so easy to miss if you’re not regularly testing

I’ve had it when some are darker then get a lighter one. Sometimes it can simply be down to your urine being too diluted. Make sure to do the tests at the same time each day and to have a good 4-hour wee hold beforehand. This month for me, day 10 was lighter than day 9. But then I’ve still got my peak at the expected time. It’s a learning curve when you first start to track ovulation so I wouldn’t worry x

Try tracking it with an app as well, I find that really helps! And remember your lines could come up randomly fainter if you had too much to drink or didn't hold your wee long enough. BTW no need to test 2-3 a day during the rest of your cycle, just when you think ovulation might be near.

I use femometer btw and have attached a pic of my log so you can see what the tracking looks like.

Thank you! What app is that? :)

I'm supposed to be in my fertile window is my cycle is "normal" so I started testing twice a day from the start of that.
