Hi, this is my first post so please bare with me!

I'm 21 years old and me and my partner have been trying to conceive for almost 2 years.

Last January I had an ovarian cyst and this was removed. In January this year I was diagnosed with PCOS. My doctor has prescribed me with metaformin 3 times a day. This month I feel completely different, I've had so many symptoms and I'm currently going through the awful 2WW!

I'm currently 8dpo and since 1dpo I've been sick twice, hot flushes, a stabbing pain in my right ovary, a tightening feeling in my uterus, bad lower back pain, spots on my chin, awful headaches, blocked ears, thick discharge and sorry this is abit TMI but the most horrific gas that smells absolutely vile😂 am I overthinking this? AF is due in 7 days so will test next Wednesday but I've had a bit of a strange discharge today it's yellow, I've been wearing a panty liner so I can catch any discharge but tomorrow will be 9dpo which from what I've read it the most common day for implantation. Let me know what you all think. Xxxxxx

Hi,

How long have you been taking metformin and how quickly did you increase the dosage from 1 a day to 3 a day? I also started taking metformin in January and it made me throw up a few times and I was very unwell in the beginning similar to you, lower back pain, headaches etc. Apparently that’s pretty common. Now that I’ve been on it for several weeks it’s calmed down a bit.

I can’t really offer any advice as I don’t know if what you’re going through is side effects from the metformin or if it’s pre-pregnancy symptoms but fingers crossed it’s the latter! 😊

I was put onto 3 a day straight away, I never had to increase it or anything, which is why I'm super hopeful it's the latter. Getting loads of twinges in my lower abdomen this evening, feels like a lot of pressure. Fingers crossed! X

Did you start on 1 a day or were you the same as me and given 3 a day straight away? X

I started on 1 day and was supposed to do that for a week, then do a week at 2 a day then move on to 3 a day and stay at 3. I was so ill though, dizzy, being sick etc that my doctor advised me to come off for a week.

When I started back on it, my doctor said to do 1 a day for a few weeks until I felt ok, then try 1 a day 2 a day 1 a day etc I til I felt ok, then do 2 a day for a few weeks then 2 a day, 3 a day, 2 a day, 3 a day etc until I could cope with doing 3 a day.

I’ve not quite got up to 3 a day yet! 😳

Fingers crossed!

Jumping in here if I may 😊

I have also been on Metformin for about 3 months twice a day now for PCOS. Desperately TTC, I hope it works out for both of you and I get some hope that Metformin will work.

The tablets really upset my stomach when I started taking them, some days it still does but mostly it has taken my appetite away. X

I've just realised my mistakes in my post title! It's meant to say TTC on Metformin*

Yeah, they can make you feel awful. For the first 3-4 weeks I was on them I was so ill & they made me so hormonal, had the most horrific mood swings, my partner breathing was making me rage!😂

I'm going to do a early response test tomorrow morning, period isn't due until this Tuesday though so I know I'm probably playing with fire here, just desperate and can't wait anymore😂

Where are you girls in your cycle at the moment? How many days left for you until you can test?Sending us all baby dust.❤️

Oh good luck Olivia ❤️

Well it's a hard situation for me because I don't actually get natural periods. I was on tablets for a few years which forced me to have a period every 3 months but now they have took me off them and put me on Metformin.

So I don't even know when I'm ovulating, I need to buy so tests and start keeping track of it. At the minute me and my partner are just praying that it's going to happen and everything is going to work out ☹️

I’ve had the loss of appetite too and have been unable to stomach some foods that I previously loved- it’s so weird. I gave up with opk’s as I never got a positive and it was getting expensive. I’ve been tracking my cycle length since July 2018 when I first started ttc and that confirmed that my cycles were really long 50- 80+ days. I started doing bbt last September as it was over a year and I still wasn’t pregnant. BBT hasn’t been that helpful though as my temperatures are quite erratic and even though it does think I’m ovulating, my consultant said it’s probably no good as I’m ovulating so late, like on day 58 for example. The app also changes when it thinks I’m ovulating all the time because my temperatures are so erratic and the app obviously can’t cope with it 😂.

This is only my second cycle with metformin and it reduced my last cycle down to 34 days which is incredible for me!! I’ve just taken clomifene for the first time as well so fingers crossed! I’m only on day 16 of this cycle and haven’t had ovulation confirmed yet so I’ve got quite a way to go before I can test. I’ve got to have a blood test next Tuesday on day 21 to check if the clomifene made me ovulate. I’m hopeful though as it’s supposed to have a good success rate.

Good luck if you decide to test!!

Just checking in to see how we are getting on? ❤️

Hi 😊

I’m ok thank you how are you? I’m hopefully in the middle of my fertile period as I’m on day 13 of my cycle. Monitoring my temp to see if anything is happening! Unfortunately my last two cycles of clomifene were unsuccessful but there we go!

How are you getting on? ❤️

Hi!
I am onto my 2nd month of metformin for pcos. I lost 9lb and it shortened my cycle to 33 days in the first month. However, this month not much weight loss and I have just ovulated on day 33 so cycle is longer again, feeling a little disheartened! My partner and I are on opposite shifts also so only managed to dtd the day before ovulation and two days prior to that so hoping that will be enough not feeling hopeful! We have always managed to dtd a lot around ovulation but still no luck 1.5 years later!

Leodot · 15/05/2020 11:39

Ah I understand your frustration ❤️. The god news is that you have ovulated and those times for dtd sound good! Fingers crossed for you.

I'm good Leodot, thank you.

What do you use to measure your temperature? I've been looking into doing this but don't know which is best to buy. I've started using ovulation tests but I just can't help but think I'm wasting my time. Only done a few so far, but I fear that maybe none will be positive and there really is something more serious wrong with me 😔

I know Sarah, me and my partner work so much and very long hours, it is more difficult than you would expect. I hope it works out.

❤️

I use the fertility friend app and take my temp every morning before I get up with a digital thermometer. I also look for cervical fluid and usually I notice that I get more egg white cervical fluid a few days before I get a temp drop followed by a temp rise. That shows me when my fertile window is and when I’ve ovulated.

I gave up with opk’s as they are so sensitive. I know women that got a negative in the morning but ovulated in the afternoon and ended up missing it as they didn’t think they were fertile that day. I never got a proper positive on them although the lines did vary in strength. I know I’m ovulating now though as I’ve had it confirmed by blood test. OPK’s are also expensive to keep buying whereas you can just download an app for free and buy a thermometer.

Thank you Smile

I have ordered a digital thermometer, should come tomorrow.

Fingers crossed this shows me something. So the temperature should rise when I ovulate?

Report
Leodot · 17/05/2020 20:56

@Daisy545

You normally have a dip and then it will rise the day after you’ve ovulated and should stay high. It should show a clear pattern of lower temps before ovulation and higher temps after. So I tend to be 36.1-36.5 before ovulation and 36.6-37 afterwards. It doesn’t really matter what your temps are as long as there’s a clear difference between pre and post ovulation.

The other thing is that it won’t confirm ovulation until you’ve had 3 days of higher temperatures. This is to make sure you didn’t have a random night where you got really hot in your sleep or whatever. So you won’t know for sure that you’ve ovulated until 3 days later. You can normally tell the day after though as you’ll see a low temp then a high one.

My advice is to keep having sex until you get confirmed ovulation. That way you won’t miss it 😊.

Thanks for the help @Leodot it's perfect. First temp taken today and adding it onto the app. Happier I'm actually trying to figure out what's going on.

How are you?

@Daisy545
Glad it’s making you feel happier! I like it as it normally gives you such a clear picture of your cycle.

I’m ok thanks. A bit frustrated as my temperatures are jumping about a bit at the moment. I thought I’d ovulated as it went up then it went back down again, then up, then down then up then down! Literally in the space of a week. My chart looks like the Rocky Mountains! Massive swings in temperature, not just going up and down a bit. It’s been a bit odd this month and it hasn’t confirmed ovulation yet and I’m on day 21. The last 3 charts have given me a clear picture of ovulation but this one is a mess!

I’ve been sleeping badly though as work has been very stressful this week so I’m hoping maybe that’s just coincided with late nights spent ttc, lack of sleep, getting up a lot in the night and the fact that the weather has been warm and I’ve been getting very hot at night! Hopefully it will confirm ovulation soon 🤞.
