Fed up ttc and getting no luck- have irregular cycles and never sure when I'm ovulating. Can anyone advise me on temping and which thermometer is best- what is the process? Thanks!

I bought a generic one from amazon- you need one that does to 2 decimal places but just searching for a bbt thermometer will bring them up.
Its actually really simple- as soon as you wake take your temp either vaginally or orally (stick to one method!) For it to be accurate it should be after 3-5 hours solid sleep ideally same time every day. Do it before sitting up etc.
Apps are the easiest way to record- femometer is free for the basic version and will guide you through what part of your cycle it thinks you are in. It also suggests when to use opks and how often too.

The basic idea is that your temp stays roughly level until you ovulate, you might get a small drop then you should get about a 0.5C rise that is sustained usually until AF is due when it drops again.
I find bbt much easier to pinpoint that ovulation has happened (it can't predict it though) so you can then look for trends over the months. I've not bothered with opks this month and just going off CM to guess my fertile window and waiting for a temp rise to confirm as I know now I usually ovulate within a 3 day window

I have this thermometer and it's cheap and great.

I use it vaginally as it gives more accurate readings and each day I put the temp in the FF app

Hello @Alicia870, i can totally relate to this and have asked similar question few weeks ago.
A few people recommended a book to me - Taking charge of your fertility, so I ordered it from Amazon. So far I've read all the chapters about charting BBT and have to say i love the amount of information in this book! Also the way it describes what happens in my body, really makes me feel excited and i finally understand!(instead of just being fed up with longer cycles and weird symptoms).

I have also bought this thermometer and so far i am happy:
