Weird Positive Test

So me and my partner are trying to conceive after we experienced a suprise pregnancy that ended in miscarriage.

I've been testing since 7 dpo and at 10 dpo I got a positive. I decided to wait a few days to do anything honestly to save the heartbreak of going through the process only to find out I wasn't pregnant.

At 13 dpo my test was negative again

But then AF was late and tests still showed negative

At 5 days late I went to the doctor and told her everything. She didn't explain why I'd had that positive or even ask further questions about it. She just told me to do a urine sample, did a test and of course it was negative which I told her I was convinced it would be.

So today I'm 8 days late and I decided to do another test. It came up negative and in grief (I really didn't handle the miscarriage well) I threw it into the bath which actually still had water in it.

When I came back to it a couple hours later to clean it up it had a huge positive line on it. The same thickness and colour as the control line but about half the colour intensity.

Do pregnancy tests do this in water? Has anyone else had this experience? Does anyone know what might be going on???

If in doubt I would do another test.

Very strange. I wouldn’t read anything into it tbh.

I’m sorry to hear about your mc xx

After the time frame (usually 5-10 minutes) after the test has been used it becomes invalid and the result is to be disgarded. Same as if a test gets flooded aka too wet whether with water or urine so i imagine the test is invalid and you would need another one. Could you make another appointment to see whats going on? Sorry for your mc. X

@GeePipe It's quite hard to get an appointment where I live and because it's quite rural and most of the doctors have only ever worked there they all do the same thing and handle things the same way so I don't believe anything different would happen. I'm on holiday soon to mainland uk and part of me wants to book a private appointment to get better answers but I think that might be going a little too crazy.

I’m sorry to hear of your miscarriage. I think you might have had chemical pregnancy. And when you threw the test in the bath it’s become water logged and just shown up as positive x

If you read the leaflet with your test, it does say to disregard the test after a set amount of time, and only to pee on the tip, so I suspect the result is invalid.

Maybe try again first thing tomorrow?

Hello, everyone. After contacting my local sexual health clinic they advised that since my cycle isn't always regular the earliest time I should be testing is three weeks after the last time we tried which will be the 15th (my partner works away from home hence why we can't just try throughout the entire cycle which of course would be so much better)

So if it's negative then I'm calling it that I'm definitely not pregnant.

I agree with those of you saying that the test isn't valid. I didn't realize that flooding could make a second line show up I only thought it could ruin give a false positive

I do wonder if the original positive was a chemical pregnancy because it for sure was nothing like an evaporation line.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to help. I really appreciate it Star

When I was younger I had an awful panic after doing a test and getting the most positive test I’ve ever seen - it was because of flooding.
So sorry to hear about your MC, hope you get the result you want soon.
