Chemical Pregnancy Experiences

Hello,

I’m new here but was hoping someone could share their experience with me. TTC for 11 months and I got faint BFP day after AF was due (Weds). I tested each day and the line was been getting darker and darker. Yesterday my period arrived after a pretty strong positive test in the morning. Can anyone tell me, what comes first with a chemical pregnancy, the bleeding of the negative test? Or does it vary from person to person. I’m assuming the worst here but would like to hear from someone who has gone through similar. Thank you! 😊

With my chemicals the tests got lighter and turned negative and then I got my period

Some people can still get a period even though they are pregnant so I'd maybe keep testing to see whether tests get darker or lighter x

Worth trying for a blood test at your GP? Some people can still get bleeding while preggers.

Thank you for your replies ladies. I will test tomorrow to see if it’s getting lighter or darker. I guess if it’s still getting darker then I should call GP to see what’s going on.

I had some faint but positive lines that never really got darker - then started getting lighter until negative and then I bled.
Fingers crossed 🤞 for you

Thank you for your reply ☺️ I’ll try not to get my hopes up too much but 🤞🏻. It’s so hard all the waiting! I feel like I’m waiting to ovulate, 2 week wait, waiting for AF to finish so we can try all over again and now I’m waiting to see if I’m still getting a BFP. It’s driving me crazy. 🤣

@Ellie42567 I got a faint BFP day before AF due then started bleeding 4 days later for 4 days just like a normal AF, took a pregnancy test a week after bleeding stopped & it was BFN, I had a positive OPK exactly 2 weeks after bleeding stopped too then AF exactly 2 weeks after that on it’s due date

I was 19 (29 now) and I had a bfp on the friday. I was told by the GP to repeat the test on Monday. He phoned me in the morning and it was still +. He arranged for me to attend the sexual health clinic for examination that day. I was bleeding by the lunchtime. They made me do another urine sample which was blood stained! Still +. I was sent to the hospital for a scan and there words were "there is no evidence of anything ever having implanted in your uterus"
I was back at maternity outpatients for 7 weeks in a row for bloods as my levels were taking too long to reduce so they were worried the pregnancy was growing elsewhere i.e fallopian tube.
It did eventually reduce and that was that really.

I've had 3 cps this year. All of them I had faint bfp that got a little stronger then seemed to start to fade. They were still positive when AF arrived and for a couple of days after. Hugs. Fingers crossed this isn't a CP for you

Hi Ellie, fingers crossed for you! With mine, I had very faint tests, that slowly got a little darker over a few days then faded again, then the bleeding came. The bleeding was only as heavy as my normal period but I kept going lightheaded with it. Anyway after the bleeding stopped I was still getting faint tests but they gradually disappeared to nothing. On a positive note I did fall pregnant the following cycle, apparently you are more fertile, not sure how true that is, but I'm now 15 weeks.
Fingers crossed its not a chemical but if it is, then don't give up hope!

Thank you for your message, that is reassuring. It has been my first even slight positive after 11 months so if nothing else, it tells me that we can conceive and fingers crossed for next time! ☺️ Congratulations on your pregnancy! 😘 x

Hi again ladies, I'm after a bit of advice. I took a test this morning and it was as dark as the control line, pretty much straight away. So I called the GP and explained what had happened. She told me that it sounded like I've miscarried and to re-test in 3 weeks and if it's positive then call back. Is it normal to miscarry and the test to continue to darken? I had hoped for an early scan anyway due to having had an ectopic 14 years ago and was worried it might happen again. By then, if I am pregnant, I'll be over 8 weeks. Anyway I guess I'm just wondering if I should just wait and do the test in 3 weeks or see if there's anything they can do sooner?

This might not be helpful, but I would be dumbstruck if my GP assumed I was miscarrying from a phone conversation and then said to check again in 3 WEEKS.

Could just be a cultural difference as I'm from the US originally and we're quite test-happy over there, but if the line is darkening and staying dark, I definitely think it's worth calling again or checking in with some other medical professional.

Might also be worth noting what your level of bleeding is to the GP if you haven't. Is the flow of blood like what you'd normally experience during a period?

Thank you for your reply! I was very surprised that she said that, I must say! The bleed was on Sunday and Monday and just spotting after that. It didn't seem quite like usual AF, very dark. I guess I could ask to speak to a different GP? X

If you have had a previous ectopic you should have an early scan, might be worth ringing your local early pregnancy unit, some don't require a GP referral if you have a history of an ectopic pregnancy or multiple miscarriages. Hope it all works out for you!

I would really doubt if the bleeding had been a chemical your testing would be that dark, faint possibly but defo not darker. Phone back or phone your local hospitals bleeding in early pregnancy until Smile

Thank you both. I thought they could scan at 6 weeks, at least to check for ectopic. I don’t want them to be like ‘get over it, you’re not pregnant!’ Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to be but if I’m not then I wish it would just be more conclusive. I'll see how the weekend goes and call again on Monday. X

I would definitely be kicking up more of a fuss with a history ectopics and a positive pregnancy test for over a week....

You could book a private scan? I did with my first and so glad I did!
