When should I re-test?

When should I re-test?

I’m on day 34. According to my app, my average cycle length is 31 days and my longest cycle has been 33 days (March).

I didn’t ovulate (according to the sticks) until day 25.

I did a first response test on day 32 (as DH was excited!) and got a negative, but this was only 1 week after positive ovulation, so very early.

So (if my period doesn’t come on) - when would you recommend testing again? I’m thinking not til the weekend which would be day 38 - meaning my period is 6 days late and nearly 2weeks post ovulation.

Any advice appreciated! I don’t want to test too early again, but also keen to know...

I'd say at least 10dpo... but 14 would be better if you can wait that long?! Good luck!! X

Was you positive opk cd25? If so you might not be 9dpo yet, so possible leave it another 5 days to test. How long is your usual luteal phase?

Thanks so much for all of your replies

@mumofhants1 ok I’ll hold off til Friday night I think... tomorrow would be day 10 post ov, then Thursday we have a busy day so a nice distraction. However I thought I felt a brief period pain earlier, but nothing since. Meant to be on a very rare night out with friends Saturday so would be handy to know by then, as wouldn’t usually drink when in the 2ww (rarely drink anytime tbh!)

@SamRwl arghhh 6 days late must be so frustrating. Fingers crossed for you!

@VenusStarr yes positive ovulation test on day 25 of this cycle. I just googled leutal phase! I don’t know how long mine usually is. With DC1 I got p.g first month of using ovulation sticks (not of ttc) so it really helped then. And I ovulated probably day 22ish I think from memory!! I have now read that if less than 10 days this can be an issue, so I’m now in no rush for my period even if I’m not pregnant! Any advice re this?

Although this is our first month of ttc DC2, for several (non health related) reasons we’ve had to delay for 6months, so feels like we’ve been trying longer if you see what I mean. Also PCOS has been mentioned to me before due to acne and irregular cycles in my early 20s, so although happened quickly first time has always been on mind we may have been lucky

@SaltedCaramel Everything Friday sounds good - I'm testing then too! Let me know how you get on? Btw not sure if u know (apologies if u do) but morning urine is better for testing so might be better to do it then?
I've got a family thing Friday so really want to know if I can drink or not too. Not sure what my excuse will be if I can't 😳 x

@mumof1hants ahhh I’d forgotten re morning wee!! I’m trying to be more “chilled” than I was when ttc DC1 when I read the whole internet, but forgot about that. On that basis may wait til Saturday morning so DH isn’t having to rush off. Yes I’ll keep you posted! Let me know re yours too. How old is your DC1? Have you been ttc long?

@SaltedCaramelEverything I'm trying to be 'chilled' too... it's so not happening tho! 😂
She is just coming up to 20 months and this is our 2nd cycle. AF came a week early last month and completely threw me! Means we DTD at completely the wrong time!
How about u? X

@mumofhants1 ah no that’s very annoying! Did you use ovulation sticks this time? I feel that doing so also goes against my attempt to be chilled, but also knowing that I did ovulate was reassuring! This is only our first cycle for DC2 and DC1 was 2 last month. We have had to wait since Jan to ttc though as DH was changing jobs and we wanted to make sure he’d get paternity leave and also save up so I can hopefully do closer to a year off as felt going back at 8.5 months was too soon last time!

@SaltedCaramelEverything yes I used sticks this time from the day AF stopped last month! I know I didn't ovulate early this month. It's typical it happens the month we start trying!
I went back when my little one was 8 months too because I needed the job stability but this time I'd take a year too. Might be the last time I'd be on maternity too! Xx

@mumofhants1 that’s so typical! Sounds like we’re in similar positions then. I’m now Day 35 so 2 days later than my longest previous period in about 18months, no more pains either!
Good luck for Friday Smile

@SaltedCaramelEverything - do you know how long your luteal phase is? The average length is 12-14 days after O, so I would test after CD39 if you O’d on CD25?

@ELW85 sorry I didn’t see this message or would have replied last night! I’m not actually sure

@mumofhants1 Update! Last night I thought my period was coming on, DH did some googling and said it could be implantation bleeding. When it didn’t come on this morning, I couldn’t wait any longer so did a test and it was positive! Sending baby dust your way and hoping this thread brings you luck too!

Did a FRER this morning & it was BFN. Wish AF would just come now... roll on the next cycle I guess. Hard not to be disappointed though x

Thank you both.

Sorry you’re both in the same boat, so frustrating when being late on gets your hopes up when as you said, at least with your period on you can focus on the next cycle and distract yourself.

@mumof1hants I hope your evening out is a good distraction tonight!!
