I stopped my pill a couple of days ago and will be trying for our first in July. What pre-conception vitamins are the best and when should I start taking them? I thought June? Did anyone here make a pre conception doctor’s appointment? Thanks

@missfit86 I had an appointment with my GP when we decided we wanted to start TTC. GP said pregnacare conception are the best ones to use. She also talked me through coming off anti depressants.
GP said start taking vitamins up to 3 months before to help increase your levels pre conception.
Hope that makes sense

Great, thanks. I’m not sure if I need to make one. I wanted to ask about the vitamins (which you’ve advised me on) and also about the fact that I’m rhesus - (my husband and I had a termination 11 years ago) so technically this would be my second pregnancy so I don’t know how alert I need to be about being AB-. My other question was whether I can stop the mini pill mid pack as I’ve read conflicting answers but I’ve already decided to stop it now!

I asked the pharmacist today and he advised that I take the pre-conception vitamins a month before and my husband to take them 2 weeks before we start trying. We bought the pregnacare ones. Did anyone else get similar advice?

I went in for a preconception check up recently. The dr prescribed a blood test to check my immunity to various diseases. I think the blood test also looks at whether I’m lacking any vitamins etc. I’m going back tomorrow for the results.

hmm interesting. How long before did you start taking them? I’ve just come off my pill and still waiting for things to happen first but it’s taking a while!

If you do decide to stop pregnacare for whatever reason if you find it doesnt suit you make sure to take your folic acid 😊

I took pregnacare conception vits when trying for DD. I didn’t find they affected my cycle, however I took a few months to return to normal cycles after stopping the pill. I kind of took that as an advantage as the recommendation is to take folic acid for 3 months before conceiving if possible.

You don’t need to see your GP unless you have specific concerns e.g. medicines you already take, health issues that may complicate things e.g. diabetes, heart problems. I never saw my GP for anything relating to my pregnancy, the community midwife handled everything, which I think is the norm for a straight forward, low risk pregnancy.

Pre conception enjoy some time doing things you won’t be able to do once ttc/pregnant/with newborn. Maybe get yourself/your house/your finances in good shape if you can! Then you’ll feel mentally prepared and ready for whatever comes your way.

Good luck!

As others have said, no need to see your GP unless you have an existing medical condition that might be an issue, you're on medication or you're not immunised against rubella (might be able to see a nurse for that one, check with the receptionist).
