Hi everyone!
So I had my son 4 years ago and I’ve had a Mirena coil fitted ever since and in those 4 years I’ve probably only had about 4/5 periods. I’m thinking of changing my contraception to the pill in the hope that I can have regular periods again but is it that simple and easy? Would love to hear anyone’s experience! Thanks

Why do you want periods?

Plus the 'periods' you get with the pill aren't proper ones, they are withdrawal bleeds so you aren't ovulating

Just to add, with Mirena many women do continue to ovulate (you just don't get the bleed) so by switching you might be messing up the actual hormonal cycle rather than just the bleeding aspect (I think the pill works by actually stopping you ovulating).

You don't "need" a period with the Mirena as it thins the endometrial lining.
If you had PCOS and you weren't having periods, you would need medication to induce a period a few times a year to keep the endometrial lining healthy.
Keep the Mirena! It's doing its job.
