Hello I have had a mmc and am due to have tablets tomorrow. Has anyone had a d&c with a local anaesthetic (not general) who can give me their experiences of this? I've been reading up about the tablets (though the midwives told me not to) and using them sound horrific.

I’m really sorry you’re going through this. I had a mmc in December and it was just awful emotionally. I decided to see if my body would do the natural thing (it hadn’t in 10 days) and the following 2 days knowing baby had died but was still there wasn’t good for me so I then booked in for the tablets. I did the same as you and googled... I rang the ward who told me I’d have to stay in overnight (I have a 3yo) and there was a chance it wouldn’t work and I’d have to go home and come back and stay in again. So I googled the other option and just thought it was best to get it over and done with. I’ve never had a general before but wasn’t offered the other way, it was general or nothing. Anyway, everything went smoothly, I woke up in recovery, back to ward for tea, toast and a wee and I was sent home. I had zero pain and minimal bleeding for 4-5 days. I found the physical part of getting over mc very easy, emotionally not so much and it’s important you get plenty of rest and look after yourself. It’s a truly horrible thing to go through but sadly it’s more common than we all realise. Sorry I can’t help on the local anaesthetic but I found the general really good. X
