TTC first time, after some advice and reassurance

Afternoon ladies, so we're ttc for the first time. I've been on the mini pill for around 3 years, and the patch for a year before that. Last took a pill on December 31st but didn't get a withdrawal bleed til 10th Feb. First AF came 28th Feb, so if my cycle is somewhat near regular, I should ovulate in the next 2-3 days. I've bought some ovulation tests today but have never used them before so I'm looking for any advice you ladies might have, both about the tests and ttc. TIA!

Hello. What ovulation tests did you buy? I use the clear blue ones where you get the flashing and static smiley. Really happy with them as easy to use and now I guess it is up to luck now as to whether it happens.

Main thing I have learnt from TTC for a few months is the need to DTD in the lead up to ovulation as it is best if the sperm is already there waiting by the time the egg is released. Some people swear by preseed lube so I'm using that in case helps as well as the seven seas vitamins. Good luck!

I've just got some tesco ones, as I can't really afford the branded ones! We've got preseed, but not really sure when it's best to use it, should it be everytime we DTD? We're finding it a little tricky as when I was on the pill I had a really low sex drive, which is coming back slowly, but we're still having to plan when to DTD, would love it to be a little more spontaneous!

Yeh the branded ones are expensive aren't they - this is my first month of the pricey ones hoping don't have to get any more!! We have only been using pre-seed when it is a likely to conceive day. My husband doesn't like it so have been using the one with the syringes and that has worked better for us. Yeh the planning of DTD is a bit of a bore. Am actually happy to have a bit of break now as is getting a bit much! Starting two week wait today

Fingers crosses for your 2ww! I use the syringe too, little but awkward, but I've got used to it. Oh is starting a new job in a few weeks, so it'll only be me that works late evenings instead of both of us, so that should take off some of the pressure! It's so nice to have somewhere to talk about all this stuff, I haven't told anyone about us ttc yet.

Hi Ladies, I'm also first time TTC and this is my first cycle. I feel quite overwhelmed with how much there is to know and track! I used OPK's and think I ovulated over the weekend so I'm in my 2WW now... I'm quite impatient so think I'm going to struggle waiting. We plan to test on good Friday (if AF hasn't been) so fingers crossed we have something to celebrate over the long weekend.
How are you feeling about everything so far?

Thank you @JVMorgan. Yes it is nice to have somewhere to talk. A few people know we are trying as on cycle 4 now but am trying to keep it quiet as much as possible. Hello @MrsVict. Good luck for your 2WW! Yes the waiting is horrible. I have had so many 'symptoms' the last few cycles that this time I am going to try and not read into things but it is hard! Think will test on day 9 (16th April) as going for a bottomless brunch with friends so might be good to know if can't drink although is still a bit early probably for a bfp. Yes hopefully we can celebrate on the long weekend!

Good luck for the 16th @becca3210 I have a wedding next weekend so hoping I can get away with not drinking without raising eyebrows!!Do you usually test before AF?

I do but I shouldn't.. it is best to wait if you can! Have been talking to some girls for a few months and some of them got clear bfp from day 9 post ovulation but is common to not get one until day 12 onwards. AF due around 21st so imagine if do get a bfp will be around then. Have a great time at the wedding think it is a good to have a few nice things planned during the waiting time.

Fingers crossed for you getting a BFP Grin

Thank you. I'm glad I have something midway through the TWW to keep my mind off it, hopefully it will help.

I'm so glad I found the forum, I'm already struggling not being able to talk to anyone about it apart from the DH

I was ttc for the last 5 months but no luck. This Feburary I took the ovulation test and it came positive. My AF is VERY regular and the test came positive on the day I was suppose to be ovulating. However AF showed up again! I was so devasted. I went to a gynaecologist on 2nd of March last month, and she said I did not ovulate this month... or there is a very very very low chance the egg is already fertilised and moved down.
She said my hormone level is also not right and gave me some medicine.
I was all prepared this month for AF and to my surprise she never came. Since I started my period I have never ever missed AF! I was in disbelief and 2 days later took 4 pregnancy test and got my BFP on all 4!!!
I didn’t have implantation bleeding or any weird discharge. Just very sore and swollen breast.
Don’t lose hope and don’t let anyone make you lose hope! Sending lots of baby dust your way. 😘😘😘

Congrats @miimii786 thanks for sharing. Feeling a bit cramps still in ovary region not sure really why as must have ovulated by now! Do seem to get cramps quite a lot though across the month so think just hormones.

Afternoon ladies, did my first opk this morning, with a definite negative result, so looks like my cycle still hasn't settled :(

Your last period was 28th March? You may be to early to be ovulating.

If this is your first month, relax, enjoy the sex, and make note of your cervical mucus too. When you notice a change start your OPK's. In the end after about 4 months I started to track my BBT and fell pregnant in December. It was a much more accurate way.

Don't let sex become a chore, my DH said sometimes he felt like he had to do it instead of wanting to do it and it was a real turn off for him .

Good luck OP. X

Oh and your cycle can take a while to settle. I came off the pill about 18 months before we actively were trying to conceive. The first 8 months or so where all over the place. Some 30 day, some 39. It's just your body trying to find its rhythm again x

So if AF came on 28th March you are day 13 of cycle? Is common to ovulate at other times of the month rather than bang in the middle so I wouldn't worry. My ovulation days have varied quite a lot since coming off the pill in September though two months have been day 16 and day 17 so hopefully are settling out a bit.

Yes agree that cervical mucus is really useful to track and useful to see how it corresponds to OPKs. Yes the sex/chore struggle is real! Still working on that one some days :)

2 months down the line, but finally an update, no AF since 28th March, but 4 negative tests in the following weeks. I gave up testing, just decided to wait for AF. 3 weeks ago still nothing so I decided to make a docs appointment which was last night. All the usual chatter and ended up with blood tests and scan booked to check for pcos. Everything fine and dandy I thought, let's get the tests done and go from there. However... The doc also said to test every few weeks so I decided to do one tonight just in case... BFP!! doing another one tonight just to check, but I think this is it! Thanks for all the baby dust ladies!!
