Hi everyone,

We are looking to start a family and unfortunately we are unable to conceive the traditional way. Hence, we are looking into home insemination kit.

It's an exciting time for both me & my husband. Though I'm a little nervous of how to start? I've seen a number of insemination kits online and OPK kits. I'm seeking for advice from someone who has done / is doing home insemination for some encouragement.

The information is vast out there and I'm a little confused as to what / which kits I really need.

I look forward to hearing from you all.

Many thanks
'Big bear mama to be'

It's hard to advise with such little information about your circumstances. Reasons for being unable to conceive, are you needing donor sperm etc.

I couldn't conceive naturally either, for me personally, and everyone is different, with different reasons and motivations, but I wouldn't do anything without proper medical advice. We sought the help of fertility specialists, and conceived via IVF in the end.

If the sole problem you have is that he doesn't ejaculate inside you then you only need really basic kits. You can buy them cheaply online.

He does his stuff in a pot, leave it 5 mins or so to liquify, put into you, lie down for 20 mins (supposed to help if you can have an orgasm while waiting)

Good luck

I’ve had 2 chemicals using insemination. DH ejaculated into an Instead softcup which I then inserted, with hips raised, and kept in overnight. If you google instkinstion using soft cups there are a few success stories online

Thanks all.

@sparkles87 I have vaginismus and husband also have erectile dysfunction. We are unable to have intercourse.

@whatsnewchoochoo did you try home insemination yourself and this was the method you did?

@lavenderbluedilly thanks for letting me know and good luck.

I've used it in the past and I got pregnant once. It became a miscarriage but that had nothing to do with the way I got pregnant. We used a cheap kit bought over the internet.

@explodingkitten thank you for letting me know and I'm sorry to hear that.

You have to keep in mind that as long as the sperm is positioned somewhat for the cervix you're doing it right. Remember that men don't all have the same length penis and they still can get a woman pregnant.

We inseminated one day before ovulation and on the day of. This was recommended to us by a fertility specialist. The day befors was the most important she said, and the day of was just to be sure.

Also don't be surprised if the volume of sperm can look different, it has nothing to do with how many sperm there are.

@explodingkitten thank you so much for the info. That's really helpful. May I ask which home insemination kit did you use?

Hi @Bigbear123,

I saw your post a few days ago and wanted to comment but feel now is a good time. For numerous reasons we ended up going down the home insemination route. I ordered a pack from Pride Angel, came really quickly and after 3 months of trying I got my BFP yesterday. I am now 4 weeks 4 days.

I hope this is useful, if you have any other questions then please ask them! I did feel a little alone and felt like I was the only one going through this process so I hope this is helpful to you.

@sal1987 wonderful news! Thank you so much for sharing and I'm absolutely thrilled for you. I ordered my kit on Amazon and it came quickly. We will start trying in 3 weeks when my ovulation comes. I'm excited but also a little nervous. I'll keep you posted :-)

Are you temping and using opk to track ovulation?

You could also try preseed in the syringe. I tend to keep the preseed container in my bra and then once sperm is in the pot I keep that warm next to my body. Then get yourself comfortable and suck some preseed into the syringe and the sperm (once it's more liquidy as it gels immediately after ejaculation)

Then bung the syringe inside, try and have an orgasm and push sperm into vagina.

However I've been doing this for nearly 2 years and no such luck but I have diminished ovarian reserve.

Good luck!

@juneybean yes I'm taking temperature every morning and also using OPK test strips.

I have vaginismus and we are going to start trying next week with insemination. I'ma little terrified at the thought of inserting the syringe inside me. I've inserted dilators as part of my vaginismus treatment previously but I cant help it that I'm worried. Obviously we have one shot a month so I want to give it my best shot.

Any advice would be much appreciated from the forum.

Thanks x

Have sent you a PM @Bigbear123

Totally understand your fear, I definitely recommend the preseed as inserting the syringe isn't fun! But if you get the right size (10ml I think). Can you do any relaxation beforehand whilst your DH is doing his thing?

You can buy 1ml syringes - they're tiny, really thin. You don't have to get all the ejaculate in at one time, you could take a few attempts with a very thin syringe

@LKRJM @juneybean @whatsnewchoochoo thank you all for your helpful advice. I have a variety of syringes on order from 1, 3, 5 & 10ml so fingers crossed.

So I should have ovulated yesterday but the test indicated no. My body temp peaked yesterday and dropped slightly today. I did have egg white mucus discharge a few days ago.

Does anyone know what this mean? Could this be a delayed ovulation or is that it? Try again next month.

Could be a fallback rise today?

Hi @juneybean

I've started using the Fertility Friendly App to record my temp & cervical mucus and it looks like my ovulation has passed.

We tried home insemination last Thursday. It was a dry run and some Preseed & Sperm went back out when I injected the syringe. Think I didn't insert deep enough. It couldn't go any further with my vaginismus. Will try again.

Xx

Did you take your last 3 temps at a different time? That could have a slight bearing on the temperatures?

I also have vaginismus and am now the mum to a little one born 8 weeks ago so it definitely does work!

I just bought 10ml syringes and sterile pots off amazon and preseed. I used conceive plus for 2 months and no luck, switched to preseed and month 3 got a chemical and then month 4 fell pregnant and now here I am!

I found it really useful to use the clear blue ovulation sticks so I was definitely only inserting the syringe on the right days as it did still hurt. Used to insert a couple of days before peak, the 2 peak days and then another day after if I could manage it. Each time I would lie in bed with my legs up for 30 mins too.

Fingers crossed it works for you and then when it does also think about the birth as that was hard to get my head around too, I had a planned c-section in the end.
