Early period - feel a bit cheated

DH and I have been trying to conceive our 2nd since Jan. Feb didn’t happen, due to an irritatingly timed bout of proper flu (grr!)

March, though, we DTD every day in my ovulation week (according to my app), had loads of fun doing it and were feeling really positive about it. Then, Friday night, two days after I’d apparently ovulated, a period arrives?!

It must be that, it’s bright blood and fairly heavy (apols for tmi). I can’t work out why I’m having one only 2 weeks after the last one, as I’ve never had that before. I just feel really grumpy about having lost 2 months due to my body not getting it together - I know it’s not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but we’ve gone through a lot to get to a point of feeling ready to try for our second and I hate the delays! Sad

Sympathy from me! When did the bleeding start and are you still bleeding?

Have you been tracking ovulation? It is a funny time to get bleeding.

Also a little tip, apparently dtd every other day on your fertile period is better as the sperm quality is better and sperm can live upto 5 days anyway so you are definitely covered.

I've been off birth control for about 14 months but have been using natural methods to avoid getting pregnant until we were ready. Before Christmas we decided in the new year would be good then my periods went all crazy on me. This month is the first month we have tried, ive convinced myself I am but I know deep down my periods are just still funny. It's crap trying always getting your hopes up isn't it?

That sounds so frustrating! I totally understand how annoyed you must be feeling. Have you recently come off birth control? We're your periods regular before this?

Thanks both - that’s just what I needed! I haven’t been temping, but last period was 2nd March til 6th March, which would have put ovulation day at around Wednesday this week.

I had a glass of Prosecco after work on Friday and found blood when I went to the toilet - I know it can’t have been the alcohol, but am still kicking myself... quite heavy bleeding then from Friday night until this morning 👎🏻

No birth control in the recent past and periods usually pretty regular albeit on a long 37 day cycle. I’m a bit of a Type A and hate having so little control over this Angry

I wonder if you are just having a dodgey cycle this time? It can happen. I thought maybe implantation but sounds like a lot of blood and probably role early.

How many months have you been trying? Should hop onto one of the two week waits or monthly busses lots of ladies on there in same situation as us.

Hi PocketFullOfMumbles
I had a really similar thing in January. I’d had flu over Christmas - like not able to get out of bed, high temp and sweating everywhere. December period arrived maybe a day early, but in January I started bleeding, heavily on cd16. It was my period and I can only assume it was a side effect of the flu.

Yeah as Dboo says join one of the busy threads. I'm on the one "Anyone staring TTC #2..." and it's a lovely bunch of women!

Thanks ladies - I might go do that when I’ve got over my grump 😋 we’ve only been trying since Jan, but first time round it only took two months, which has created unrealistic hope in my mind for this time...

@EverythingNow, that’s interesting - so maybe the flu knocked me out of cycle? Did you then ovulate as normal two weeks after that early period?

I did. My cycles have been normal since (sadly no bfp yet though).
