Confused by progesterone result

I have irregular cycles but decided that because I'd had ewcm between cd 11-16 that I would do the bloods on the "right day". I got the results back a few days ago and they were 17.

They told me that it was a "normal" result. Should i just taken it that I have ovulated and leave it at that? I read online that 16-28 is borderline, I don't understand how it can be borderline, how can there be any progesterone if you haven't ovulated?!

I'm very confused!!

Oh gosh thay does sound confusing and that's a broad range to be in the "borderline category " have they said what you can do next? Ewcm is sooooo confusing as well

@Owlpatrol. It is but it's confusing to know what it even means lol. Yeah I agree about ewcm! All I know is that this cycle it's the only time I've had it, there wasn't so much of it this cycle either. They don't say anything else until I've had the ultrasound.

@LookingAtTheStars89 i had mine done for past 2 months as im under RMC at the moment ... first month they were 51.1 which was great, last month 15.5 and gp has said it is indicative of no ovulation - he also gave that broad category of 16-28. This makes sense to me as any time i have got preg but lost i have ovulated on the side that the high number was from (my right side) .. sorry about the ramble. If i were you id go next month & get checked

Oh i also did think i ovulated this cycle as had bit of side pain & had temp rise so who knows. I then read you should get tested early morning before eating as this can lower progesterone but maybe im clutching at straws!!

@keepinghopeful. What are they doing for you? Have they told you what they think the problem is?

@keepinghopeful. The bit I don't understand is that I thought progesterone had a baseline of 3ish, so how can a higher number than that be indicative of no ovulation? Sorry, I'm being a bit thick!

What unit of measurement are they using as that can sometimes cause confusion. I had mine done day 21 and it was 21 which the gp said suggested I wasn't ovulating. Her guidance was over 30 (think the unit was p/mol?) showed ovulation. We ended up going private and a scan showed I was ovulating so the consultant thought low progesterone in that bit of my cycle might have been an issue. I was prescribed cyclogest pessaries to use.

I'd check the units and then perhaps go back for a more detailed discussion with the gp. Good luck.

Yeah my unit is n/mol & like to be 30 or over. Im up at rmc clinic next week again so will ask then & hope they dont say cause ovulating from 1 ovary you are fine 🙄
