Best day to DTD

It's pretty manic for us at the moment- new job, moving house, long commutes and we already have a DD (1).

We're TTC #2 but struggle to DTD as much as we should.

Does anyone know which days are the most important? If it were a toss up between the day of O or the day before- which is best to go for? I'm fairly confident I know which day I ovulate (opk and physical signs).

I realise it's a bit of a busy time to be thinking about TTC but our logic is that the pressures of moving house and having a new job will resolve in a couple of months time.

Day before I reckon

Thanks, that was my instinct too since it takes upto 24 hrs for the swimmers to reach their destination and gear themselves up for action.

Can you be sure about the day of ovulation? Is it a matter of guessing or are there ways we can be 100 per cent sure?

SaturdaySauv · 17/11/2017 11:55

Temping is the only way of being sure. I'm fairly confident of when it happens due to physical signs and consistent cycle length and luteal phase length with positive opk 15 days before first day of period (so I assume I ovulate the following day after opk peak and have a 14 day luteal phase).

With temping this is my first month so trying to get used to it. Are we meant to dtd when temp rises or falls?

SaturdaySauv · 17/11/2017 12:58

Temping confirms ovulation has already happens so is useful to understand when in your cycle ovulation happens.
But because you want sperm to be in the right place in the Fallopian tubes and ready to fertilise the ovum you need to have DTD before you see the temp rise so it's only really useful to confirm ovulation has happened and to help to understand your cycle.

Tracking your cycle with an app like fertility friend might help. Enter secondary signs, opk results, temp etc and it'll predict when/if O happened and your most fertile days.

Oh ok, thanks.

Owl, I'm guessing when it rises, although I'm not sure.

Owlpatrol · 17/11/2017 13:03

Thanks chicks!

SaturdaySauv · 17/11/2017 13:09

Yes- the temp rise confirms ovulation has happened.

Well my temp dipped today to hopefully dtd today and see temp tomorrow!

MadamMaltesers · 18/11/2017 01:34

If it dips doesn't that mean it's not the ideal time to DTD? Confusing! Or am I just slow..
