Chemical pregnancy

Hi so this is my second one in 3 month period I know to some people that’s not a lot but it’s hard to deal with, first one happened very early and this second one I was 3.5 weeks pregnant I just wanted a bit of advice on a few things;
1. Any tips on dealing with this?.
2. If anyone has had one before how long does it take for your cycle to get back to normal?
3. Advice on future testing when do people do that first pregnancy test as I tend to early tests which in turn makes me crazy?

It’s so hard to deal with 😟

When you say you were 3.5 weeks pregnant do you mean you miscarried 3.5 weeks after your BFP?

It's my understanding, though I may be wrong is that a chemical miscarriage is when a woman's period arrives pretty much arrives on time and the only reason the woman knows she ever conceived was because she tested early.

If a loss occurs a week or so after a BFP then I would class that as an early miscarriage, not a chemical pregnancy.

I have only had one early loss where I was getting positive tests for 2 weeks after my initial BFP but then they started fading until eventually they were negative and I miscarried a few days later.

My cycle returned to normal straight away.

I have always tested early and I do see the benefit of it because even if it does end up as a chemical and the period arrives on time (ish) then at least the woman knows that she can conceive.

A woman who doesn't test early and so has her periods on time may wrongly think she hadn't conceived, or medically can't conceive, when in fact she can but the eggs just fail to implant correctly.

Inability to conceive at all and ability to conceive but eggs that not able to implant are two different problems and I think it's beneficial to know which (if any) you're dealing with.

@QueenAmongstMen sorry early miscarriage I was roughly two weeks post my period and positive pregnancy tests etc, where as the before that one was a chemical one.

I can see the benefit of early testing just it messes with my head 😩 I get all excited sometime waiting till later is better I guess now I know something else is happening I guess.
I just want my period to come now so we can try again.

This probably won’t be a popular comment but id stop early testing. It’s not doing you any favours for your mental health. Anything over 5 weeks LMP is classed as a miscarriage. I’m sorry for your loss. It’s nothing you’ve done, nor is there anything you can do to stop or prevent it happening.

I’m 15 months TTC. I’ve never ever tested early and I honestly think it’s helped me not lose my ever loving mind in that time. I know I can conceive as I had a mmc at 10 weeks in February. I think early testing just makes people become obsessed, depressed and less hopeful. And that’s a really sad thing to be making your future children.

Good luck. X

@MouseLove thank you for your comment I agree this time has hit me hard and the early testing made me worry it didn’t help at all, I just feel so low this time and I am loosing hope I am an inpatient person anyway which is also why I find this very hard.

I’m sick of waiting till I ovulate then not being sure cause my cycles are so irregular then the 2ww which is the worst bit then just disappointment it’s so draining.
Sorry just had enough at the moment.

I think the first thing you should address is ways to work on your patience. You may be at this for years. And that’s the harsh truth. You may be pregnant next cycle. It’s hard and emotional and draining. This is month 15 for me and I never thought it would take this long. However I’ve practiced patience, because there’s literally nothing I can do to make it happen other than the obvious. I will have 9 months to wait once I’m pregnant to hold my baby and then a lifetime of worry and delight at every step. So if I can sort this out now, it will prep me for the long haul.

Take a little time to treat yourself. Stop blaming yourself, don’t feel like you’re wishing your life away. Take up a hobby, set mini goals or things to look forward to and refocus. It will happen when you’re ready for it to happen. And you’ll know that once it’s all over. Xxx

I had two in a row two months in a row. The first time I tested positive for 3 days from 10dpo. However my line was getting fainter by the day and I began bleeding on 14dpo. I ovulated around 2 weeks later and concivedd again, I got a bfp on day 8!! However it never got darker at all and on day 10 I began bleeding heavy. Around 2 weeks later I ovulated again and I’m now almost 5 weeks along and so far things seam ok. My advice would be stop testing early but I couldn’t even do that. I know how you feel though, and it will happen for you soon

Helen290 Wed 15-Nov-17 08:03:19

@Nikki2ol6 thank you have really given me hope I have been feeling so awful, I found out my hcg dropped Monday but I still haven’t had a bleed does it take a long time? My hcg On Monday was 19 and progesterone 25. please let me know how you get on and congratulations!! I have everything crossed for you 🙂 xx

Helen290 Wed 15-Nov-17 08:19:00

@Nikki2ol6 I hope you don’t mind me asking and you obviously don’t have to answer but how old are you?

QueenAmongstMen Wed 15-Nov-17 09:11:58

I went to my GP when my pregnancy tests turned negative and she said it was very likely I'd had an early miscarriage.

She wanted me to return for bloods in two days but I asked her what was the point as it was only going to show what we already knew.

I then started bleeding the next day so it was very quick after the negative HPT.

Helen290 Wed 15-Nov-17 09:55:02

I was about 2 weeks pregnant and I had positives on the weekend so I’m guessing it will take possibly a few days, I am hoping by the weekend I just want it to be over so I can move on 😔, and hopefully be more successful next time.

Helen290 Wed 15-Nov-17 09:56:06

Did you have a normal length cycle after that?

MouseLove Wed 15-Nov-17 09:59:18

Helen. Pregnancy is dated from your last period. So if you were 2 weeks from ovulation it means you were 4 weeks pregnant based on you ovulating on CD14. Always count from your last period. I hope you feel better soon. X

Helen290 Wed 15-Nov-17 10:37:05

@MouseLove I know that sorry I thought that was obvious as I couldn’t be 2 weeks from my last period.

MouseLove Wed 15-Nov-17 10:39:05

Nothing surprises me on these forums and then you’ll welcome all the smart comments of people telling you it’s impossible to be 2 weeks pregnant, wanted to spare you the snark. Xxx

Snipples Wed 15-Nov-17 11:28:38

So sorry for your losses. I had two very early losses at about 5 weeks each in May and August. I’m now 10 weeks pregnant with a (so far) healthy pregnancy.

I just wanted to say that when I was at the docs for my current pregnancy she was surprised I wasn’t told to wait at least 3 months after the first loss as it made a second loss more likely. Not sure how true that is but I would’ve saved myself some heartache had I waited.

It is still very possible for you to have a healthy baby. Try not to panic

Beetlebum1981 Wed 15-Nov-17 11:44:21

I too had two early miscarriages at about 6 weeks, they were about 4 months apart. It really got me down however 2 months after the second I found out I with pregnant with DD who’s now 2. I’m also 23 weeks with DD2. We’d prepared ourselves for another wait before conceiving this time however I fell pregnant within a week.
It’s hard but please don’t give up hope and I agree with other posters about testing too early. Easier said than done I know when you’re so desperate to find out!

Helen290 Wed 15-Nov-17 11:59:28

@Snipples thank you that’s really helps knowing people have had success after miscarriage, when it’s happening to you you don’t think logically and it’s hard to be hopefully so thank you again.
I’m not sure about the likeliness after but I am with fertility and they said just keep trying she said maybe chill a bit this next month but that’s more to do with me getting over this loss. Congratulations it’s so nice hearing peoples success 😊. Xx

Helen290 Wed 15-Nov-17 12:12:29

@Beetlebum1981 thank you for your comment, I want loose hope it’s just hard especially when you want something so badly 😩.
I know early testing is horrible but then even if I didn’t and tested the day of my missed period I still would of got a positive and still felt the same so you can’t win really but I do think next time I’ll leave it a week after my period to test lol I say that now but I bet want 😊. Xx

Nikki2ol6 Wed 15-Nov-17 13:42:17

I’m in my mid 20’s. And my bleeding started before my period was even due or on the day it was due and to be honest if I hadn’t Of taken those tests I would have never known. Iv had my bloods done but won’t get my results until tomorrow. After I did bleed though it was only around 2 weeks before I ovulated but I kept Thinking maybe I need a few months rest but I think it’s gojng ok this time

Helen290 Wed 15-Nov-17 14:05:09

@Nikki2ol6 ah ok yeh was 4 weeks pregnant so I was late for my period, but good news this afternoon I have started spotting so hopefully should come on my period tomorrow then we can try again with hopefully some more luck this time 🙂 x

Nikki2ol6 Wed 15-Nov-17 15:34:42

Aww that’s sad but it will be all over with soon and back on the ttc road. Hopefully your next baba sticks xx

QueenAmongstMen Wed 15-Nov-17 20:05:23

Did you have a normal length cycle after that?

Yes I did - everything returned back to normal straight away. My DH wanted to start TTC'ing again straight away but emotionally I just couldn't face it so we had a few months off.

It all worked out though and I'm now snuggled up to my 3 month old son.

I hope you fall pregnant again soon and that you gave a happy outcome.

Helen290 Fri 17-Nov-17 07:54:37

I have started my period yesterday and It’s so heavy and unbelievably painful I never get painful periods so really struggling, I will just be glad when it’s over 😩.

Nikki2ol6 Fri 17-Nov-17 12:17:51

Mine was so heavy and painful too and I had only got a positive 8dpo and bleeding began to 10dpo I was so shocked at how much worse it actually was compare to normal. I hope it’s all over soon for you
