What does this mean? POAS experts needed! BFP but BFN on digital

Morning MNetters,

So I have some weird test results, here’s my history:

  • Sunday 11dpo BFP on FRER
  • Monday 12dpo BFP on Superdrug early and a barely there squinter on IC

-Today 13dpo (see attached pic) much stronger BFP on IC BUT BFN on CB digi!!

What is going on?

And yes, I will obviously be testing again in a couple of days and no, I know no one on an Internet forum can tell me if I’m pregnant but has anyone experienced this with CB digital tests? I dipped it rather than put it into the urine stream so don’t know if that made it less effective? I just don’t understand how HCG can be rising (shown by IC test getting darker) but then nothing being picked up by the CB. Am resigning myself to a chemical... Sad

I’ve never used a digital one so can’t shed any light but I wanted to post anyway to send good vibes x

Clear blue require 50 mol of hgc while the early tests are often 7-15, it might just be too soon for the digital! It takes approximately 48hrs for the hgc to double so you could have a positive on day 11 with frer test but need to be day 15/16 to reach the hgc level needed for digital. Congratulations x

Sorry I missed your concerns re a chemical, unless the lines getting fainter it’s more likely to be that you’re not yet at the threshold for clear blue.

Also make sure the cup you use is very very clean traces of soap etc can interfere with pregnancy tests.

So sorry you're having this worry. I had to force myself to stop POAS even though the temptation is huge, because that way madness lies! It's such a stress and you end up analysing them for hours.

Like Soulcake said it's probably that you're just not at the required threshold for CB yet.

Can you go to the doctor and have your HCG measured? Flowers

Thank you all! I really hope that it’s just my HCG levels aren’t high enough yet for the digital - although it says it’s 98% accurate the day before AF is due which is today so that’s giving me some concern!

Lily you are, of course, absolutely right, and I will stop POAS but I do want to understand what’s happening.

Keep rationalising that it’s jjst not high enough HCG but then worrying that it wasn’t rising fast enough for a normal pregnancy.

I didn't register as being 'pregnant' on CB until I had strong lines on FRERs. The concentrate of HCG that is required to get a positive on a CB digital needs to be higher than that of the standard tests. I think I ended up not getting a positive result on them for a week or so!

My 1 year old is sleeping (and snoring as he has a cold) upstairs Smile Best wishes Flowers

Thank you butt that is reassuring!

And soul - no soap or anything on the cup!

Ive found clear blue can be quite unreliable. I once had one saying 1-2 weeks and another 3+ from the same urine sample.... ( total poas overload!)

They say try every 2-3 days as it gives HGC a chance to get stronger. I've used the same early tester you've shown in the pic, but not clear blue. I also had the same faint line which 3 days later was a lot stronger. So don't lose hope just yet Wink

Thank you all so much!!
update
Well, after giving myself a good talking to about POAS and deciding to wait until Thursday to do my other CB digital, I went to the bathroom and before I knew what I was doing I had ripped off the packaging in a frenzy and peed on it. Only 1.5 hours after I last peed. But this time I didn’t pee in a cup, I POAS! And it seems that was the problem!! It says to keep it in the pee in a cup for 20 seconds whereas you only need to put it in the urine stream for 5 seconds so I think maybe I didn’t leave it long enough...

I promise, I will now not be POanymoreS, unless I have spotting or something. And if I am TTC again I will only POAS when AF is due.

But there you have it - you need to pee ON a CB digital, not dip it!!

Hahah @Lovenluck glad you got your big booming BFP on a digital! The exact same thing happened to me. I only got my positive a day after af was due on a digital, but after reading the instructions I don’t think I held it long enough in the cup of wee so then did it in the stream of pee and got my positive!

Now you need to step away from the sticks and enjoy the fact you are pregnant!!
