Using cervical positioning

So, today my cervix is firm (I'm on cd11) and I should ovulate between cd15 and cd18. I know that sperm can live in the female body for up to 5 days so it's good to have sex in the build up to ov but if my cervix is still low and firm, am I right in thinking that if we had sex today the sperm would not be able to enter my cervix anyway? Is it true that once my cervix is high and soft, it's worth starting to have sex?

Just to add, I'm tracking my CM and BBT anyway but at just curious about how CP tracking would work.
