Conception

Holy cow I think we've been dtd on the wrong days for the last 7 months!

I think my Ovia app is incorrect which means this whole time we may have been dtd on the wrong days.

My cycle is on average 30 days. My Ovia app says I ovulate on cd20. How does it predict this I wonder?

On cd 13 and 14 I've had ov pains and ewcm. Yet Ovia says it doesn't happen till next week.

Whilst I know the only way to know for sure is with ov sticks j think we've been focusing on dtd for the last 7 months on the wrong week?!

What does everyone think?

Today is cd 14 and wondering about buying some sticks but thinking it may be too late now for this month.

If you have ovulation pains then stop buying tests and following apps and listen to your body!

Dtd days 10 12 14 and 16 and see how that works.

If you update the app to say you have pains and ewcm it will correct itself because the exact same thing has just happened to me. Also if you're having pains then DTD as soon as you can because it's still the ideal time.

Buy the Clearblue ovulation tests. There's no debating a positive on that because you get a static smiley face. Apps can give you a rough idea but are not as accurate.

Exactly what napqueen said. Evey time I plug a symptom in to mine, my fertile days yo-yo about. It's made me realise that the only thing worth listening to is my body. The apps are great for keeping track of symptoms, recording temperatures etc but it is just an app after all and will not have been built to be in tune with every single different person's cycle.

There was a study into apps that said only three apps were accurate for getting the fertile window and ovulation date correct:

www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-3646349/Most-fertility-apps-WRONG-Women-using-pregnancy-tools-given-bad-advice-best-time-conceive.html

I use Clue and do find my EWCM matches the most fertile day the app predicts.

I'd go with the EWCM. On a 30 day cycle I'd be going for days 11, 13, 15, 17. Very similar to what NapQueen said.

Ovulation pain is the very best indication of ovulation. I have this, I got pregnant first time with each of my three pregnancies.

Why not just have sex a bit more? Especially if your TTC. There's no harm in having the odd shag earlier in your cycle than what your app tells you anyway. It's probably a healthier approach.

If you feel pain or get ewcm, shag.

I get ov pain very early in my cycle and got pregnant twice from DTD on days 6-8. Experiment a bit! :-)

Those apps are rubbish, I would buy some ovulation strips
Used them this month for the first time and have just got my BFP
Didn't use them last month and I think I missed my most fertile time as was abit unsure when I actually ovulated! And my periods are all over the place so the app was out aswell!
The clear blue ones are so easy to use! Worked for me! X

You could also have a look at the Billings method (taught this as contraception at an RC school and a friend became pregnant after doing it in reverse ie sex on days when more fertile)

Once ovulation occurs the fertility window is only 48 hours, and if you consider its safe to have sex after 48 hours for contraception purposes, then the window is really at about 24/36 hours.

However, sperm lasts a few days and egg white mucous is the best to nurture and guide the little cells up to the egg. So, have sex from about day 10 after the start of your period or as soon as EWM starts.

If you're only having sex on day 20 or after of a 30 day cycle, there's no way you'll get pregnant.

Is the app set to prevent pregnancy? Just a thought.

The best thing to do (as someone who has struggled to conceive twice but got there in the end) is sex every 2-3days from the end of your period to the start of the next. Exhausting but the only way to be sure

I'd be very surprised if you ovulated as late as CD20 on a 30 day cycle, I'd expect CD16 or 17.

Sex every other day for your whole cycle.

Don't forget that charting BBT can see whether you ovulate around the 14th or, as your app predicted, the 20th. You could dtd on the days you get cramps and ewcm but chart BBT as well so at least once you see the temp rise, you'll know whether you caught ovulation or not.

I definitely ovulate later than a couple of apps suggest. I noticed ewcm around days 20 to 25 and thought that was odd and rather late, but AF arrived on day 38 so that fits in with ovulating around day 24, which is about a week later than I thought. I'm definitely learning to trust my body more and just keep BDing all month!

I have just been having sex willy nilly with no BFP. Then started opking with my clear blue monitor which was painful to buy because I thought it meant 'something is wrong with me' only to figure out I'd never DTD anywhere close to my fertile window! On second cycle of TTC when considering ovulation but going TTC nuts now and constantly annoyed by husbands easy going nature!

My Ovia app says that ovulation is on about day 21 (also approx. 30 day cycles). I started using OPKs a few months ago after discovering I had a low ovarian reserve. The first month we used them I got an almost positive on day 16 and only had sex on that day that month. I got pregnant but miscarried. Ever since I have positive OPKs on approx day 16/17 but Ovia still insists ovulation is still 21 the next month. My data on there went a bit haywire following the miscarriage as there appears to be no way of recording it, so just assumes it is an extra long cycle. I thought it would have sorted itself out by now. In summary, I don't think the predictions are at all accurate and just use it to keep track when my periods occur.

I use ovia and the fertile window Junos around depending on what you tell it. However I also have a 30/32 day cycle and have got a static smiley on clear blue opks as late as cd 20 a few times so not totally unheard of?? We've sacked off every monitoring type thing no temping no opks no cm just Dtd as much as humanly possible without getting bored! We will see....

Report
Florence16 · 24/09/2017 13:36

30 day cycle here and I get positive OPKs on day 16 so expect I ovulate on CD17. Ovia suggested mine could be later too but it's done on an average as soon as I enter CD17 as ovulation it ends my fertile week meaning it did start sooner than it initially estimated. You should update the app if you know you're ovulating, it is really just an estimate on there.
