Has anyone had any day 21 blood tests done to measure progesterone levels? What were your results and what is the normal level?

Appreciate any help :-) x

Anything above 30 confirms ovulation.

You also need to sure to get the test on the correct day - as simple as that sounds! Day21 is based upon a typical 28 day cycle which most people don't have. But in theory you should be getting the test about 7 days before you expect your next period.
I've had the test done twice and both on CD23 because although I do have 28 day cycles, my CD21 is always a Saturday. My first test result was a 29 and not sure of the second as not been back to the GP for her to tell me but it can be quite a fiddly test to have.
Hope that's helpful.

The levels my doctor advised confirmed ovulation (and were listed on the breakdown of results from the lab) was over 20 Smile

I had the test in May, it was day 21 of a 24 day cycle and my results are 12 so obviously they're really quite low. But obviously I came on my period 3 days after the text. So am I right in thinking the results aren't accurate? I had a repeat test in June, day 21 of a 26 day cycle and should get my results tomorrow. So again, will these results not be accurate? X

@Florafoxtrot

Would you say my results aren't accurate due to the timing of the tests? X

I had day 21 bloods done last year, my result was 62 I think and I got them the same day. The test should ideally be done 7 days before your period is due, so it would only be day 21 if you have a 28-day cycle. I had irregular cycles so had blood taken twice in one month to try to cover all bases.

If your cycle is 24 days you need day 17 for an accurate result I'm afraid.

My cycles have varied so far this year from 24-28 days. Get my results from the repeat test tomorrow and my HSG x-ray results so once I've got them going to see if i can move my apt forward with the gynaecologist as I'm not due back til October! Maybe I should ask for a 2/3 tests to be done in the same cycle 😕 x

OP are you tracking ovulation with opks/temping? The test is meant to be 7 days after you ovulate (hence "day 21" assuming you ovulate on day 14 of a 28 day cycle).

For example, I ovulate on day 20 so would have the test on day 27 of my cycle.

I don't ovulate regularly so cant pinpoint the specific date. I do use OPK's some months, but I was becoming so fixated on them it was making me stress myself out more so I'm more chilled with them now and don't use them every month. The consultant told me it was day 21 of the cycle regardless of whether you ovulate or not. But don't think he really took my irregular cycles into consideration x

It would be worth tracking for a month to make sure that you are getting the test 7DPO - best way to do that would be through temping rather than OPKs as they aren't foolproof. Have you temped before? I'd think that if you were able to pinpoint ovulation day and then phone your Doctor, explain its a time critical blood test and they should be able to fit you in.

Ok been for my bloods this morning for 21 day test. They took bloods for estrogen progesterone, to check thyroid and a full blood count. Is that about right?

No I've not done BBT before. I don't want to stress myself out even more focusing on it completely. I've had my repeat bloods back today and progesterone level was 32, test was done five days before AF x

Sounds good then - a level above 30 confirms ovulation so hopefully that should be it for you with the 21 day bloods. I'm very jealous!

MrsJones - yes that sounds about right.

Rang the docs this morning for results... receptionist just said all normal. Which is a relief but would like to know actual results. Have made appointment with nurse to discuss but can't be seen for another 3 weeks. What are others experience of this?

@mrsjones17 when I rang for my results I asked them to tell me what the result sort was instead of them just telling me low/normal/high x

Hi,

I had my day 21 tests done a few weeks ago. Called for the results and they said 'GP checked and all fine'. I asked for the results and they told me 21 which I knew wasn't where it needed to be so I went to the see the doctor. She told me yesterday that my results were actually borderline not 'ok' and when I told her AF had arrived 6 days after the test she said it looked like I wasn't ovulating. She said they look for a figure of over 30.

I'm not sure how the mix up happened but worth asking for the figure based on my experience.

Sunshineinthecloids - it could be the units of measurement they use. My results are in n/mol. Might the units of measurement be the reason for the difference if your surgery does something different?

Hi girls, just want to jump on this thread as I have just had the results from my test and my progesterone in only 18nmol/l SadSad
Feeling pretty gutted. I get good temperature rises each month after ovulation but my luteal phase is only 11days, I had hoped that my progesterone would be a decent level because of my temps but clearly not.
Expecting a phone call from the docs today hopefully to see where we go from here.
To rub salt in the the wound I've actually been feeling really hopeful about this cycle, but with a level of 18 there's obviously no way I'm pregnant 😭
